That was not very helpful, but it looks like you had spent sometime editing the photo. So thanks ;)

Would you have to know how to read and write Japanese to get a job in IT? My current trade is web site design / graphic work and has been for over 5 years.

It couldn't hurt, right? Either being literate in Japanese or any other of the languages that you command (except English, no offense;) ) should land you an IT job no worries.

Unless you manage to get a job designing English web sites ;)

Ok thanks guys, suppose I will just have to continue contract work for Australian clients when I come to Japan.

Is it hard to setup the Australian equivalent of an ABN in Japan? I would like to declare most of my work to prove I am making in money in Japan, instead of just cash jobs.

Luke, you also may want to check up as to what tax declaration obligations you have either side.

Each country's tax agreement differs with Japan, but I guess that if you are already in Australia as a Kiwi, you are classified as a non-resident in NZ, so there shouldn't be any tax obiligations there. However, if you are going to be based in Japan and charging clients (incl. GST??) in Australia for your services, you may need to look into what kind of set up you need and what documents you have to take with you. Remember though, on a working holiday visa, the main objective is to work a little, travel a little, bonk a lot, train hard and get trashed...so don't confide in the consulate too much!!! Ha ha.

Just some thoughts. It would be better to be clear as mud on all these things before you leave Australia rather than getting run around once you land in J-town, where public officials get hard-ons from making life and paper work a bitch here!!!

Ahhh thanks for that I will look into it during lunch. I need to design a new portfolio / company site, currently in the process of creating a car parts export site as well.
