CFD Modelling

Postby Taka-Okami » Sat Mar 06, 2010 12:34 pm

I am thinking about setting up shop in Japan in the field of CFD modelling, specifically in hydrodynamics. Anyone here have any insight into this field in Japan?

I know nothing about hydrodynamics or CFD modeling in general.

That said, there is a general question you need to answer regardless of the type of business you plan to set up: What can you provide to the Japanese market that local businesses can't? You need something big enough to overcome your "gaijinness" in order to have any chance of success.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again

Thanks for that.

I'm just starting to look into it. Basically I am developing a 3 year plan to a start up a business in Japan invloved in hydrodynamics/CFD and/or water/wastewater engineering. This obviously will involve looking at what niches are there (if any), making connections in the industry (for example I have recently been invloved in negotiating with a Japanese company that supplies ozone generating gear), looking at what company structure is best etc. Anyway I wont be rushing it. One step at a time!

Photocopiers?

Anyway, best of luck to you, I don't know much about hydrodynamics but in aerodynamics CFD is definitely the way forward. I know Japan is big in powerful collective computing (earth sim et al.), maybe you can hook up with a research institute or university that has this kind of firepower at its disposal and is looking for new ways to implement.

I think your right that photocopiers generate ozone. We also use ozone to treat water as it kills pretty much all the nasties in the water. It its damn expensive kit, and takes shitloads of electricity to generate.

I'll add research & universities on my list of possabilities! There ae always niches available. Takes a good idea & some balls, and heaps of work to pull it off. Respect to all those have have made it, and doing well.
