CAN I HOSTESS

Postby kgroovy » Sat May 08, 2004 6:49 pm

Hello
I am wanting to come to Japan as a hostess, i will only be on a tourist visa and im from England so how would this effect me getting a job? also what would be the best districts to work in. I dont speak any Japanese, does this effect how much you can earn? is there maybe any hostesses i could contact to give me a better idea of what to expect, what do i need to wear etc, Also i am 28 years old, tho i look 24 (for sure!) is there any age limit?
I have looked at all the agencies there are and the perks seem ok, but can i get along better ie earn more money going about it myself? like can you just walk into a club and ask , can anyone recommend any decent and reputable clubs?
another thing, is it easy to find accomodation and roughly how much would i be paying a month, and what is the best way of going about finding somewhere, also when i first arrive could someone recomend a cheap nice hostel
thanks k

Wow. You have a lot of questions; some are easier to answer than others.. I'll give a shot on some that I have an idea about.. One note of warning; hostessing can be lucrative, exciting, and fun.. But also VERY dangerous. Make sure the people helping you out are actually helping you.. 'help' and 'harm' have some gray areas..

Not sure.. It used to be easy to find work on a tourist visa, but I think it's more difficult now. You might have to come here, find a sponsor/job, then run to Korea for the working visa.. If that still works.. I have a feeling, in the hostess business, the kind of visa you have won't be the deciding factor for getting the job..

Seems like Roppongi would have the most opportunity]I dont speak any Japanese, does this effect how much you can earn?
Nah.. Learn some basic language skills, laugh a lot (not psychotically), and flirt.

I don't know anyone currently in the business]Also i am 28 years old, tho i look 24 (for sure!) is there any age limit?
There doesn't seem to be.. The limitation might be in how much you can make..

Good question... Not sure. Depends on your agency and perks..

Tantra had a lot of foreign 'entertainment/hostesses': http://www.tantra-mensclub.com
Had some friends that worked at Seventh Heaven for awhile: http://www.seventh-heaven.com
Don't know much about Climax: http://www.climax-r.com/e-top.htm
G-1 (Ginza): http://www.club-g1.com

If you live in Roppongi, expect to pay around 1,000 US a month. But there are guest houses as low as 600.
kgroovy wrote:what is the best way of going about finding somewhere,
Find a centrally located guest house, crash there for a bit, meet people, ask questions, look around.. Some of the Hostess Clubs provide a place to stay as well.
kgroovy wrote:also when i first arrive could someone recomend a cheap nice hostel
Sakura Hotel has places everywhere: http://www.sakura-house.com
Tokyo Apartment: http://www.tokyoapt.com
Guess T House (Roppongi): http://www.tokyohostel.com
Guest House Ropongi: http://www.roppongi-mayflower-house.com
Fontana (lots o' locations): http://www.fontana-apt.co.jp

Keep in mind I've never stayed at any of these places, so I can't recommend them.. But it's a start.

Whatever you decide, be very cautious in this line of work..

Good luck!

Man, you're out of the loop. Flying to Korea hasn't been necessary for years. You can change status without leaving the country now.

That's why I said 'not sure', Jerk..

So, she can come here on a Tourist Visa, get a job in the 'entertainment' field, then have her visa changed to a Working Visa by running down to the nearest Immigration office? Cool.. That's easier than what I had to do..

Don't Britts have the Working Holiday scheme as well?

Whoa.. Flashback..

I don't know]a lot more 60 year old men with teenage girls there than I usually see in Roppongi.. The shit-smell was just as pungent too.. Ikebukuro? Blech.. Shibuya's kind of cool; young, but tolerable.

Aoyama or Ginza might be better, although not as 'exciting'.. I heard Azabu is nice.. But it's right next door to Roppongi.

Obviously, more 'research' is needed..

This young lady posted the same question on gaijinslop.

I hostessed for 6 months on a tourist visa way back when and had a GREAT time. I couldn't speak Japanese but learnt pretty quickly. The thing is, it wasn't in Tokyo, but in Tochigi. I got introduced to it by some girls I met in Thailand who were already working there. I got an apartment and decent money and possibly scherosis of the liver. Tokyo would be way difficult. Try somewhere a bit more rural. Like I said, I got introduced to it (I worked with 7 other Brits and Danish) so, dunno what to suggest re: introductions, sorry.
