D ouglas Herrick, who gets both the credit and the blame for perhaps the tackiest totem of the American West, the jackalope -- half bunny, half antelope and 100 percent tourist trap --- died on Jan. 6 in Casper, Wyo. ... Whether jackalopes ever hopped the earth's surface is rather like the same question about the Loch Ness monster and Bigfoot; it depends on the observer. Believers say that Buddha mentioned a horned rabbit, although they usually neglect to mention that the Enlightened One implied they do not exist.
Ananda said to the Buddha: "...the nature of the mind which is aware, perceives, and makes discriminations is located neither within nor outside nor in the middle; it is not located anywhere at all. That very non-attachment to everything is what is called the mind. Therefore, is my non-attachment my mind?...
Buddha answered: "If it did not exist, it would be the same as fur on a tortoise or horns on a rabbit. Just what would that non-attachment be?"

Jackalope--- Shonen Knife : Happy Hour (1998)
I just got a post card of an unknown creature. Instantly I noticed its unusual features. It doesn't look like anything I've ever seen. Looks sweet and friendly. I don't think it could be mean. Jackalope, tell me where you hiding, hey, hey, hey. Jackalope, how come I can't find you, hey, hey, hey. I stare at the post card. Half jack rabbit, half antelope. Now I know it's called a Jackalope
