I have good news, my own BlogTV service is scheduled to be restored next week. My Disinfotainment BlogTV was the first videoblog, the first system that integrated video with blog software. But the video blog server went down since I moved and could not get the required DSL at the new location.
But yesterday, after 4 months of battling with QWest, they have finally agreed to connect a DSL line to my office, something they could have done 4 months ago. So I'm going to bring up the BlogTV service again after being down for 4 months, and I have quite a few videos from FujiTV waiting to be posted. I'll post here when I get a new video up and online.

Looking forward to seeing your VBlog Charles, cool man.

Also looking forward to seeing a few samples of the Pongi at the iTunes Store! It was such a hype seeing GJ's downloadable and subscribable videos, that I immediately subscribed.

Now all ya'll need is a way to get PAID.

Well, see, there's a problem. I am using copyrighted videos from other sources, but strictly as fair use so I can make social, cultural, or linguistic commentary. If I profited in any way from presenting these videos, I'd lose my status of fair use.
And besides, blogging is a hobby, and I personally think it is unseemly to ask other people pay for your hobbies. If I was doing this in a professional capacity, that would be another matter.

Anyway, I just signed up for a new professional hosting service, and got a huge discount so it's nearly free for the first year, it even includes the advanced services I need like QTSS. I should have done this months ago. I'll get the old blog moved to the new host and whipped back into shape as soon as I can.

I'd like an option

Postby mr. sparkle » Sun Nov 27, 2005 7:14 pm

Still. It'd be nice to offer an option to deliver the content at even a nominal rate. I'm sure you would not bitch at getting 99 cents per downoad wouldja?

Yeah, I've got a couple of original film projects on tape that I've never edited and posted, partly because it's far too much work to just put up for free. I figure a few people might pay for it, but it's still basically hobby stuff.

Compensation is still one of the big issues of online video. I recently saw one of Rob's videos hijacked by iFilm, so I wrote him a couple of notes and he seemed to be OK with it. I personally would have a fit if I found some other site reposting my work with their ads wrapped around it, when I was presenting it without ads, at my own expense, on my own site. But Rob seems to be of the opinion that all publicity is good publicity.
Well, that's the difference in philosophy. Rob's work is his video, and any distribution gets him more publicity. But the videos I use are (mostly) other people's work that I comment on, so my work is the synthesis of the video and my written commentary on my blog. Therefore, I lock down the videos using non-downloadable streaming, it can only be viewed in the context of my blog page. So my work wouldn't work as vpodcasts, while Rob's would work great.
In any case, once you toss your work out there for free downloads, you totally lose control of it. I'm more of a control freak so I keep stuff locked down, so I control how you see it. Of course this goes against everything the Web stands for, the Web is all about the users being in control.
