Yes, I think he has a good idea. Given the time he must be taking filming and editing, though, he probably ought to take an extra ten or fifteen minutes to think about his commentary. He's watching it at the same time we are but, because he hasn't really planned what to say, his comments are a couple of beats too late and end up a little distracting. Especially when Asuka is writhing around.

It would also be kind of cool to have him facing the other way, commenting and pointing things out. Every once in awhile turning around to introduce the next scene.. Kind of like Mystery Science Theater..

At any rate, what he does takes time, creativity, and energy.. I appreciate it for what it is, as well as what it could be..

I think your advice is good for a professionally produced show, but it's hard to transfer to a video log. A 'vlog', based on what I've seen, is supposed to be a tad amaturish. A video diary; there are grammatical mistakes and run-on sentences in diaries.. People want 'reality' these days; if it looks produced then it feels 'produced' and unnatural.. Kind of fake.

His format is a big improvement over other video logs I've seen where people sit in front of the camera and talk about shit they've done.. Who wants to see that? (Actually, there are many that do.. But I don't) I'd rather see the shit they've done.

Tripod shots would be nice, but I think it's impractical for what he does. People tend to clam-up when they see a tripod; It's not just a guy with a camera anymore. It's a production! Smoothly shot handhelds add that sense of 'being there' I feel the 'new' viewers tend to want.

Whatever our advice, I hope he keeps doing what he's doing. As we know, producing, shooting, editing, and packaging takes a hell of a lot of time. The more professionalism he strives for, the less video logs he'll create..

Just my 2 yen, at 120 to the dollar..

Thanks Roppongi for your advice. However much I agree with it you need to understand this is not a production, those are not subjects. He just goes out and records whatever is there. It really is meant to be a sharing of what he is experiencing and I don't think he has any interest in scripting or having 'takes'. What happens, happens ya know? That is his approach in any case, although it is different from how I would approach it. But then again that is also what is good about it, it is different than how someone else would do it.

Um.. He is also aware of your stuff and .. um.. he kinda has a different take on what you do. He is more into honesty and real life kinda stuff and I think your stuff comes off as being kinda fake and possibly a bit pretentious for him.

Personally I like it all but they are 2 different things. I pointed him to tis forum but I doubt he will chime in of this. Different strokes...
