Continuing a long tradition

Postby Steve Bildermann » Wed Jul 02, 2003 7:31 am

...of old establishment farts vainly trying to show how contemporary (and relevant) they are by sucking up to the latest pop star.

The rehabilitation of Eminem as the new darling of the liberal establishment was complete yesterday after Seamus Heaney, the Nobel Prize-winning poet, lauded the rapper's lyrical prowess and said he had "sent a voltage around a generation".

Kiss my ass article

"One thing I would say about Eminem and rappers in general is that despite the fact that the subject matter is sometimes more than near the knuckle, they do valourise the word in a way that lyricists generally don't," he said. "In general, the language is perhaps more important than the music in the rap genre."

Eminem replied

'it's absurd but thanks for the word now bend down quick and suck my dick'

Oh, I have all the respect for Eminem as well, but I still think he's a poser asshole.

"two trailer park ho's go round the outside"

:D

Eminem is what he is. A show piece, a white boy in a black boys world. He will fade like so many others before him. Pop culture today makes me sick. Yeah he is different, unique and he mixes it up well, but it's empty. It will be forgotten. It is not a 9th symphony.. hell it isn't a "Blue Suede Shoes", it's pop culture that will turn out much like Vanilla Ice, or that other white rapper.. :D

If I go out and write a song about sex, drugs, murder, or crime, sell it to a label, I'm rich and famous for a year may 3. Of course my music has limited value, plays off of the stupid, and seeks to dumb down culture.

I hate MTV and their ilk. They make our youth stupid, promiscious, and influence trends, fashion, and products that sell our children to a shallow life of Coca Cola, Gucci, McDonalds or whatever else is "hot" at the moment...

When I have children, I will try my best to ween them from such a terrible influence. I will try to teach them to see the true value of something and not just accept it because everyone else does and it seems cool, hip, fashionable, etc..

sorry to jack this thread. :D

I didn't like him much until I saw 8 Mile. To the extent that the movie is a reflection of his real life, I think he might deserve a little more respect.

Rap isnt much different from rock and roll or pop. It's singing about the same thing just in a different way.

I don't care for most rappers cuz they cuss too much. But that is how people talk in some places.

As far as eminem...He's been around for about 4 or 5 years now...STRAIGHT. Vanilla Ice came and went in about a year. He also pissed off some big shots in the biz and faded out to stay out of dodge.

The guy who did the reggae sounding song informer is from Canada. He got locked up in jail in Canada and that hindered HIS career and since he is an ex-con, he isnt allowed to do stuff in the U.S.

I didn't like Eminem at first. But he rhymes well and he is also a lot more thoughtful than most rappers out there. He isnt just talkin trash, he actually discusses human emotion. I could enjoy him a lot more if he'd stop cussing so much. I don't own any of his albums tho. I only buy albums that I'll let my boys listen too. Like Will Smith
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.
