Japan Goes For Oscar Experience

"Postcard" trailer

Japan has chosen "Postcard", a film by director Kaneto Shindo, as its submission for next year's foreign language Oscar. The final short list for will be selected from all country's submissions in January. If Shindo's does go forward, he might have one advantage which could appeal to the Academy members. He is 99 and will be only two months off his 100th birthday when the Awards show takes place. He's also hinted that "Postcard" might be his last film. If there's no standout candidate in the category, then sentiment could play a role when votes are cast. Below you can see Shindo in conversation with Benicio Del Toro:

man, i really recommend "onibaba"--though i once showed it to friends at a house party movie fest, and many seemed a bit bewildered (not unlike their response to another favorite of mine, "alphaville"). have yet to see "the naked island", but definitely plan to... and "postcard", as well...

You clearly never saw Hakkyousuru kuchibiru... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0274541/ .

The necrophyliac double penetration rape scene is absolutely phenomenal...

(don't trust the trailers... this movie is like non sequitur put on tape... The main actress is adorable... the FBI agent 'Lucy' is simply awesome, she's overacting in a way that can't really be described... You HAVE to see the scene were she wait in the van and smell her shoe...)

For alphaville... maybe the deception comes from the fact that I was always searching for the movie "malvil" and only finding this one...

(Malevil is aboot few villager who were chatting inside their wine cave while a nukular holocaust happens outside, the go out to total desolation and try to survive without ever knowing what happened http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082701/ one of my favorite movie since I was a kitten) Image

Wow, Coligny, thanks for letting me know about these French movies.

All I ever knew about movies from France is that almost nobody talks, and when they do it's barely above a whisper, the women all have hairy armpits and Gerard Depardieu is usually in there somewhere (when he's not pissing on airplanes...).

Thank you for broadening my cultural awareness....

Can't forget this classic:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1294659/

A Lonely Cow Weeps at Dawn

A young widow, Noriko, lives with her senile father-in-law, Shukichi, on a farm. He believes his favorite cow, long gone, is still alive. Noriko pretends to be the cow and lets him milk her - a satisfying arrangement for them both.
Spare a drink?

If it's our Noriko, I'd rather have her milk me......

and it ends by her dad admitting to her that he knew that his cow was gone and he just wanted some ass and titties to play with.

the end.
