Hey, is there any way to dial a US 800 number (toll free number) from Japan?

I am sure this is not what you want to hear but yes you can dial 800/888 numbers from Japan but they are charged at normal (if Japan prices can be called normal) international rates.

Just pick up the phone and dial.

I think the international code has changed to 001,010,1-800....

YMMV :D

Isn't it

010-1-800-dial-this

But there is no toll free.

This is different from Australian 13 XX XX numbers as these cannot be dialed from outside Australia even if you use 010-61-13-XX-XX.

If you have a US AT&T calling card you can dial direct (charged)
Dial 0120-288-242
Then enter your AT&T calling card U/N and P/W
Then enter the desired 800 number

ALTERNATIVELY...

If you do NOT have a US AT&T calling card you can dial direct (charged)
Dial 0120-288-242
Press 9 for an AT&T operator
The operator will take any US credit card and ...
Then you can enter the desired 800 number

--------

However, as GG said, "there is no toll free. "

I had a friend call me from OS recently using a calling card. The phone number displayed on my phone was a local Japanese number.. cool huh..

But you can just use VoIP and save yourself a bundle anyway.

A lot of calling cards (for international cards) do that. They get routed in through a local switch, then sent on to your number. When I call the US from Korea with my card, the person I'm calling sees a California number on their Caller ID.

As for 800/888/877 numbers, you're gonna pay the same as if you were calling a regualr US number. (As others have said.) When you call internationally, you're paying for the distance between countries, not by the mile. It's no more expensive to call Miami from Japan than it is to call Seattle.
