[floatl]Image[/floatl]Imalu, daughter of mega-celebrity Sanma, has said that she quite fancies hooking up with a kind Englishman who likes music and is good at cooking. That last condition might seem to many a deal-breaker for her country of choice but that would be unfair. Apparently, Imalu has in mind someone like Jude Law.

Incidentally, on the same programme, Kyoko Fukuda said that she doesn't want her partner to be too busy with work. In fact, she suggested it would be OK if he didn't have a job because she could earn enough for both of them. Sadly, she didn't say whether a foreign vagrant would fit the bill.

News about interracial marriages in the U.S.

Melting pot or racial divide? The growth of interracial marriages is slowing among U.S.-born Hispanics and Asians. Still, blacks are substantially more likely than before to marry whites.

The number of interracial marriages in the U.S. has risen 20 percent since 2000 to about 4.5 million, according to the latest census figures. While still growing, that number is a marked drop-off from the 65 percent increase between 1990 and 2000.
Broken down by race, about 40 percent of U.S.-born Asians now marry whites - a figure unchanged since 1980. Their likelihood of marrying foreign-born Asians, meanwhile, multiplied 3 times for men and 5 times for women, to roughly 20 percent.

Sayaka Yoshino has just announced on her blog (Japanese) that she has married a 30 year old American.

She's known him for over ten years. He was a musician in Japan when they met and she used to go to his gigs. His band had an eye on a record deal but nothing happened and they broke up. He went back to university in America and, on graduating, returned to Japan for post-grad studies where he also started another indie band.

That band also broke up and, just as he was finishing his studies, her pekingese dog called Candy died. Soon after her Shizu called Lady died of cancer. Even though they were just pets, Yoshino says they felt like part of the family. The couple still have a pug called Muffin.

So you too still have troubles with the tap water ? I often drive with dog pee absorbing mats on the seat...
I wouldn't want to have to explain anything on this topic with my mechanic...

I still have the troma from the day I had to call jaf because I got a toilet broom stuck inside the engine of the krauter... was -again- awefully bored and tried to clean as much as possible. (it was after removing gunk from all the panels junctions with a toothbrush... several toothbrushes in fact... and spending more than 2 hours polishing the chromes by hand... who looked like shower taps... dirty shower taps... in fact... by just looking them it would have been hard to believe they were supposed to be shining)

(At least the day we had to call Jaf because... it was raining... I could share the shame with me dj00ly...)
(the krauter had a little conception problem...)
(The shield wipers were not waterproof...)
(So any hard rain lasting more than 20 minutes was filling the wipers engine compartment who luckily was not shorting but stubornly refused to work...)
(I fixed that later when I discovered I was far from the only one with this problem... gunk was plugging the draining hole...)
(so I used some pipe cleaner)
(Who did a wonderfull job... destroying in the process the rubber boots keeping lubricant for the front driveshafts)
(who then started to make that distinct 'clack-clackclack' noise when you try to turn and move at the same time)
(which happen quite often when you drive...)
(Then we asked the mechanic -from VAG- to change both driveshaft completely...)
(I even printed the exploded view with all the part I wanted replaced)
(even me dj00ly understood what was supposed to be done)
(after the repair the 'clack-clack-clack' noise took exactly 3 days to come back...)
(we checked the repair bill)
(these imbeciles instead just put a new rubber boot and filled with lubricant)
(We got rid of this piece of shit 6 years ago... and it still give me nightmares... by comparison Christine was like a carebear...)

What's wrong with just replacing the rubber boots? In my car it got rid of the 'clack-clack-clack' noise, and it took only a couple of thousand yen.

Because
1- they were explicitly told to do so. And unlike doctors, when I go to a new mechanic and tell him to do something he fucking better obey and STFU. Then when I know I can trust him (like the actual Nissan team) I just go, describe the problem as I observed it. And they usually come back up and since they know I'm interested in techy stuff, take the time to show me where there was problems and what good and bad parts look like.
2- When the cardan in the (front) wheel has been used for a bit too long without any lubricant -since the rubber boot was a complete mess- the parts tend to wear out (think, like an engine without oil). Service manuals from other makers -Renault for those that I spend my youth reading- clearly state that if the rubber boot is found empty of lubricant the whole articulation is to be replaced (in the "best practice" section). And judging by the amount of oil splattered inside the wheel well rainshield, there was certainly not a single drop remaining inside... (damn youz centrifugal forces)
3- Since the noise came back quite quickly... (to better describe it, when turning in circle, holding the steering steady, moving forward, every turn of the front wheel on the ground was trigering the 'clack' noise) I think I was at least a bit right... Beside... when you go all the way to take appart the multi-link front suspension to replace a rubber part... it's not exactly a lot more work to also replace the cardan(...) To add to the fun we had it checked in another dealership... who confirmed the source of the problem but also told us that the bushing from the steering linkage were shot and should be replaced. Thing that the previous garage didn't even bother to report (but could not have missed) during the initial 'repair'.

Don't worry Coligny, it could be worse.

My 2008 B4 spec.B Legacy has a problem with the power steering pump. It makes a helluva noise on some cold mornings but is mostly fine when the car has warmed up. Once I started the car the pump didn't work at all -- no power steering, which means pretty much no steering unless you're built like a brick shithouse. The pump is well on its way to failing, which it will likely do catastrophically and without further warning.

Took the car in to Subaru to get it fixed. The mechanic insisted there is no problem with it because there is no oil visibly leaking. He put air in the tires (they were a bit low but not horrifically so) and said that's all they would do. WTF?

I'll be writing a letter to Subaru soon. Fuckers.

I got an hillarious one on power steering:

One day, dad in laws VW Bora just shat herself in the parking... all sterring fluid oil on the ground... and as you mentionned... harder to steer than a WWII Russian truck. He called JAF to take her to the mechanic...
Who put some fluid back... without changing or checking the hose or piping. Dad went to play golf...
And came back by taxi, the leak was moderately slow, so the car didn't lose all it's oil until after he had driven it a bit... this was few year after on of his front doors windows exploded because the limit switch for the powerwindow were defective -there was a worlwide recall for this problem-.
He got a Prius now... 5 years, no problems... still the original plastic wrapping on the sunshade and backseats... but already been through 2 rear bumpers and 1 left side door... he really dont give a shit when he park and he find the backing camera field of view too narrow...

BUT last month when we paired his IPhone with the audio system he finally found the screen to lower the volume of the GPS girl who was seemingly starting to piss him off bigh time... (could have made a home video of this... me unable to read anything in japanese, him unwilling to give a single fuck aboot the onboard computer of the car, I though we'd never be able to make it and would just end up torching the car with gasoline like a new year eve in Paris).

On a sidenote... I was really tempted by the Subaru Outback... but between the design getting far worse than a toilet seat, the ownership by Totoya (mind you, before that, Subaru was French... property of Renault, they sold them before buying Nissan) and all the nightmares you always report... I'll pass on that (bad luck... at least she was available in red...)

OK, got it. My mistake. Actually it were the bushings that were replaced on my car, not the rubber boots. Looking at those was the first reaction of the mechanic at our garage when I told him about the sound. Must be a kind of obvious solution then...

On a side note, why do they want to marry a foreigner? Because we make such good car mechanics.

I took my car's door at the driver's side apart a couple of weeks ago to repair the regulator of the power window. Just when the whole family started wondering how I would ever get that back together, I got the inspiration to look at the motor's brushes. And yeahhhh, I got it working again!
