Bold new film about dead bodies that come back to life and eat people

A NEW Hollywood film imagines what would happen if dead bodies come back to life and started eating the living.

The Brad Pitt-starring World War Z introduces the concept of so-called ‘zombies’, which is a term for dead bodies that rise from the grave to eat people.

Producer Tom Logan said: “What blew me away about the book was the central idea of people who were dead walking around.

“Not only that, they want to eat us. Actually eat us.

“I immediately thought, ‘This is something I need to see in a film!’

“I don’t want to give too much away, but in the film the so-called ‘zombies’ pretty much take over the world. The surviving humans take shelter in bunkers and make-shift hideout, desperately fighting back by shooting the zombies with guns.

“To make it even better, some of the survivors have different agendas and they end up in conflict with each other. Almost like the real enemy isn’t the zombies – it’s human nature.

“I imagine that anyone reading this has already had their mind blown, or has immediately stopped doing whatever they were doing in order to run to a cinema.”

He added: “It would also be a great premise for a TV series or a video game.

“Actually don’t tell anyone I said that, they might steal the idea.”

Aktshually... the book is awesome...

the problem comes from the fact that the only thing they kept from the book to make the movie is... the title...

How do they deal with Japan, where a zombie apocalypse is theoretically impossible (at first, anyway) because everyone who dies must by law be cremated, which means they effectively become landfill (or soylent green) instead of undead in waiting?

Cool! I've effectively been out of the loop for years (unless you include loopiness, which remains unabated to this moment...)
I wrote a book once and they all got turned into zombies through subliminal messages transmitted through their keitai...never dreamed that shite was gonna turn out to be true (the same novel also included a nuclear reactor disaster sparked by an earthquake. They countered that by building huge fans that blew the fallout over the Asian mainland and killed Chinese and Koreans. I should have realized they would pump all the radioactive water into the oceans and not let the mainlanders have all the fun...)

World War Z Review
Hollywood Reporter | 6/4/2013
... {the hero played by Brad Pit} Gerry's experience with terrorist actions in Chechnya and Africa make him the world's No. 1 go-to guy to solve the zombie problem, the bearded, long-haired dude is instantly dispatched to rainy South Korea, where he is advised that the North Koreans have cleverly nipped zombieism in the bud through mandatory nationwide teeth extraction...more... :fresse:

That gag, which isn't in the book since DPRK just go 'silent' with nobody knowing what happened. Is the doom of the zombie genre.

STEP ONE: remove teeth
STEP TWO: there is no step two, zombies are now fucked.
End of the global threat brought to you by english dental care....

Sooo...
in fact that movie is just a basic turd...
SciFi channel level mediocre...
Not even bad enough to be awesome...
It's nearly impossible to give a fuck aboot the characters... In 100 minutes it start, happenz and end... With a deus ex machina cure for the zombyism, which is to inject human with Ebola so they don't appear too appetizing for the undead...

And with no link whatsoever with the book... At this point 28 weeks later is more true to the WWZ book storyline...
Maybe in 10 or 20 years someone will try to make a real adaptation of the book...

I knew nothing about the books or even that they existed when I saw the trailer for the first time and it did absolutely nothing to make me want to see it. You didn't see it on the plane as it's just been release you by the way.

It's a really special plane... :-)

The book is a collection of short stories by way of interviews done after the z war. Different people in different places at different times, the perfect setup for few seasons of tv show, not a movie...

Going to see this when I goes back. My guess is it'll be the weakest of the three I want to see. The other two being Man of Steel (non-porn version) and Star Trek: Into Darkness.

I read the book a few months ago, with the idea of seeing the movie next.
As Coligny indicated, it is indeed a bunch of interviews by survivors after the war.
It would have to be a complete rewrite to make into a movie with one central figure.
No doubt the cast and Hollywood budget will draw more than a few people in to see it.
Currently rated 7.4/10 on IMDB, and 67% (6.2/10 avg.) on Rotten Tomatoes (and 86% said they liked it).
So it would seem that it is being well received by the general public.

I won't give any spoilers, but I personally found it to be the feature-length film equivalent of Angelina Jolie's leg. I enjoyed the trailer. Maybe I'm just getting too cynical?

I sort of liked STID, much less soundtrack loop than the first one... Some CGI scene of the Enterprise were really tame compared to what just a little more artistic sense could have produced. (Remember that scene in the New BSG where the Galactica jump in low orbit to launch a Viper strike wing... apparently the CGI team from STID didn't see it... WARNING MAYBE SPOILERS: but they manage to make the Enterprise rising from the bottom of a lake and reaching for the sky look as undramatic a bubble fart in your bathtube)
