Japanese Workers Told From on High: Drop the Formality
New York Times - Oct 30
HIROSHIMA, Japan The change in policy came directly from the Tokyo headquarters of Elpida Memory, a semiconductor maker, but it had nothing to do with computer ... The 1,366 workers at Elpida's factory here were told to stop addressing each other by their titles and simply to add the suffix -san to their names.

I wonder if Keigo will be banned in the future as most Japanese don't even know how to use it properly, or so I have been told.

:D

The shift also mirrors profound changes in Japanese society, experts say. Equality-minded parents no longer emphasize honorific language to their children, and most schools no longer expect children to use honorific language to their teachers. As a result, young Japanese have a poor command of honorific language and do not feel compelled to use it.

I think it is a good idea.. there is no need for that kind of formality.. it only creates an elitist environment where the dinosaurs rule the roost...

I say your merit should determine your placement.. I don't care how long you've been working for a company, if you do shit work, for one day or 50 years, it is still shit work.
