Gay manga for women

Postby kamome » Fri Dec 12, 2003 6:37 pm

Why do Japanese womens' manga feature boys bonking?

Japanese women have long been avid consumers of popular entertainment that would seem to disrupt sexual and gender boundaries while at the same time being committed to normative gender performances in their daily lives.

Warning to the easily offended: contains one or two (pretty innocuous) illustrations.

My wife reads that kind of stuff all the time. She seems to favor bicultural gay boys who play basketball and kiss in the showers. If I wasn't a little light in the loafers myself she probably wouldn't have married me.

Yaoi? Meeh, why not..
women have yaoi, men have eromanga and hentai.
Not the sort of genre I'd sit down and start laying down lines to, but you have to appreciate the fact that in a country that can be as tight as Japan, there are at least these social freedoms of expression (In comics no less). There would be an uproar in the states for a following like this (perhaps).
"Oretachi wa Ningen-yori Ningenrashii.."

I wonder if this phenomenon is responsible for this ad campaign:

I don't think this poster design is being used anywhere but Japan.
