Every so often this topic comes up and it annoys the hell out of me. No matter what you read or who you tells you, from my point of view this is the truth:
1. Porno vending machines are very, very rare. Used schoolgirl panty vending machines are non-existent.[SIZE="2"] If someone can find a used panty machine, I will videotape myself buying a pair and wearing them on my head all day long. And then I will eat them for dinner.[/SIZE]

Well hell, porno vending machines are not common but they certainly are not "very, very rare." Maybe there's some used panty machine still around somewhere even though the restrictions on used panties have killed this business for both over-the-counter and vending sales.

I can't read all the text because of the low resolution of the photo and the big scratch on the face of the machine, but what I can read is, "ladies & mens brand new lingerie" in the center and "imported from USA" on the right. My guess is the machine was either in or near a love hotel.

How many of those eyewitnesses could read enough Japanese to tell if a vending machine was selling new knickers or used ones?

This Google search retrieves page after page of the laws in many prefectures that forbid the sale or purchase of used schoolgirl panties (even fake ones) anywhere, including in vending machines. Almost all of them use exactly the same wording. The average fine for breaking the law is 300,000 yen......

Sadly, this and other photo commonly seen on the Net are not "proof" in any way for the actual existence of these machines today.

The difference between the one I saw on Meiji Dori in Shibuya and the one in the photo is that the products in the display photos were being worn by a girl. The shots were from the thigh up to the bellybutton (or so).

Above the price (￥500) are the words “スーパーUSED加工” (super used kakou). Kakou, in this case, means that the panties were manufactured to appear used – kind of like the Abercrombie jeans that are sold with holes and frayed edges straight from the factory. The addition of those two kanji characters makes it instantly apparent to a native speaker that the panties are not, in fact, used. Perhaps an enterprising gachapon machine salesperson realized that they could trick non-Japanese into believing the urban legend by slapping a single English word on the sign.
