Seems to be a thing in recent years... rather than looking at the likes of the PRC, pointing at them and reassuredly saying that them's the bad guys who disappear and jail public figures for speaking out and that we would never ever do such a thing, governments in the free west no longer mind a bit of silencing and repression. Biden famously said that the internet has made the business of government much more difficult... well, anything to make their job easier I suppose.

Pesky citizens and journalists always sticking their noses in, pah!

Paris. French people complain about the Parisian attitude too. Personally, I never found it too bad and these days it is pretty much non existent.
