Doublethink @ the video rental

Postby Steve Bildermann » Thu Nov 07, 2002 5:47 pm

I was in the local video store just now picking up a couple of movies. I strolled over to the NEW RELEASES section and saw they had just put out David Cunningham's 'To end all wars'

Read about it here http://us.imdb.com/Title?0243609

It's the much more accurate telling of the 'Bridge over the River Kwai'

Not really my cup of tea but I do like Robert Carlyle so I picked it up just to read the liner notes. The front cover has an elaborate hand drawing depicting a war scene with British prisoners being hunted and mistreated by ...wait for it... GERMAN prison guards. This sort of struck me as odd as I didn't think the German army was too active in the Asian theatre.

I flipped the box and lo here we have what must be the original cover drawing showing British prisoners being hunted and mistreated by JAPANESE prison guards.

The story of course centers entirely on British POW being held by the Japanese Imperial Army.

My question is who bothers to do stuff like redrawing the cover to avoid showing the Japanese army doing bad things and yet still goes ahead and puts the video out for rental.

Doublethink at my video rental - whatever next 8O
