Hum along with me

Sakamoto, Kyu "Kyu-chan" - b. November 10, 1941. d. August 12, 1985.
Internationally acclaimed singer. Sakamoto made his show business debut in 1960. His biggest hit, Ue o Muite Aruko (I Look Up When I Walk; "Sukiyaki" in the West), was released in Japan in 1961. After its release in the U.S. in 1963, the song's earnestness and melodic beauty proved irresistible despite its incomprehensible lyrics. Against all odds, on June 15, 1963, the song ousted Leslie Gore's "It's My Party" to become the No. 1 popular song in the U.S. "Sukiyaki" remains the biggest international hit by a Japanese popular singer.

Thanks for the lyrics. This brings tears to my eyes because my father, a 25 year FG loved this song. He use to sing this all the time. His 7th year of passing was last month and mom and I were talking about how he loved to sing. I never thought I would see this on the FG. Thanks

Forgot to mention, I was in Tokyo when the airplane crashed. It was a very sad time...and to find out that Kyu chan died in that crash was shocking. I remember only four people survived ...the voices from the blackbox are still etched in my memory.

The 1985 JAL 123 Jumbo crash and the story of the incredible imbecilic incompetence of just about all involved is one of the few things that gets me angry anymore. The horror of the plane circling round for 40+ minutes with no control and the pilots and passengers knowing full well that they were all going to die but not right now still haunts me.

The three survivors of the air crash said they heard the groans of other survivors including the cries of the father and sister of one survivor, after the plane crashed. The plane crashed at about 7:00 PM, just after it turned dark. Yet the Japanese rescue workers did not arrive until the dawn of the following morning because neither the civilian nor military rescue workers had night rescue equipment. Meanwhile US military rescue workers at a US air base less than half an hour away had the necessary night rescue equipment, developed by the US military in night rescue attempts during the Vietnam War, sat up all night waiting for a call to join the rescue attempt. US authorities had notified the Japanese government of their willingness to assist in the rescue effort and that they had the necessary equipment. Yet the offer was not accepted. Pride and all that. Its quite important in Japan. It is unknown for how long or how many injured people suffered in the cold mountain night before dying in the ten hours between the air crash and the arrival of the first Japanese rescue workers.

I listened to a few, boy do they download slow. Here's a few reviews:

Worst version: tie: Pizzicato 5 and Utada Hikaru

Best Voice: Selena.

Best Musicianship: Chet Atkins. I hate C&W but man can he play guitar.

Am I mistaken or did both Ryuuichi and Kyu both dub over the same music tracks?

That is very accurate about the military standby. But the Japanese govt did not call on them. I was upset, but my dad told me that the military could not do anything until they received permission. Sorry about going off the topic..I appreciate you listing what had happened.
