LadiesGolf

Postby canman » Sun Mar 06, 2005 4:18 pm

Did any of you see the coverage of the ladies golf tournament in Okinawa. After watching with the volume down, there seemed to be only one player, Ai Miyazato. I've never heard of a golf tournament that had only one player. And the funny thing is she lost by 11 strokes. But I must admit, that the tv coverage was spectacular, we never missed one practice swing or missed putt or anything. Kudos to the tv station. I think it was Fuji TV.

Ai-chan double-take

Postby samuraiwig » Sun Mar 06, 2005 5:16 pm

Sounds much like the table tennis coverage.

Or marathon coverage.

Or Olympics coverage (about which there was a fun thread last summer).

Can't figure out the focus on golf's Ai. She's obviously very talented, but she's only one of 3 or 4 up-and-coming Japanese teenage girl golfers. Excluding FG golfers would be par for the course, but why are other ware-ware players being shoved aside by the media?

(BTW, why is this in Tech?!)

Ai and Rui Kitada won the first Ladies World Cup of Golf. Ai saved the day down the stretch on the
last day, keeping her composure as Kitada started to fall apart.

She is good

Postby canman » Sun Mar 06, 2005 8:07 pm

But I mean Ai all the time, it is a little bit much. CS you nailed it on the head without Mayazato Japan had no chance of winning the Ladies World Cup. I know it is politically incorrect to state this, but my goodness Fudo-san is quite unattractive. I think that is why the other younger golfers are getting so much publicity. Also today in the Gomiyur, Jumbo Ozaki, said he must do his best to take back the publicity from women's golf. He would do his best. Cheating according to a lot of PGA players.

That's Japanese sports coverage. You just have to get used to it.
