That's exactly what I meant. The BS level of overdone excitement/amazement by the locals...in more cringe worthy FG form should not be a revelation to her....unless she actually believes they act that way normally. If that's the case, she has a "shining" bukkake career ahead of her (but at least that pays and would bring her more followers?)

The way Japanese TV clings to the stereotype of the clueless, uncultured, excitable gaijin is more than a little inadequate. There are certainly parallels in other cultures, but boy, do the locals have a death grip on that image. Must make them feel good about themselves. And then some truly clueless, uncultured, excitable gaijin makes the news for doing something that would be considered utterly stupid or anti-social in any culture, and the local media point their collective finger and yell "See! Told ya so!"

Anyway, directors. There are few good ones around, but most "salaryman directors" who simply climbed the ladder from gofer to assistant director to director at a TV station have a grossly over-inflated opinion of themselves despite their lack of any real talent. They believe that having the word "director" on their meishi somehow elevates them to a higher level of human existence whence they are fully entitled to bellow abuse at anyone they feel they can get away with bellowing abuse at. You will then see them bowing and scraping to their executive director, or anyone else higher up in their pathetic little world.

Of course any attempt to bring Japan's rules of vertical society to a field where ability is the only thing that really matters is bound to result in nothing but crap. And there we have it. Fortunately there are a few smart directors out there, neatly tucked into the normal bell curve distribution (i.e. they're rare), so all is not lost.

Well, she sounds like she's from Ontario, has only been in Japan 10 years, dogmatically dates Jpn Men, has a Youtube video on why male FGs "can't" get a FG GF and generally sounds stupid and assburgered.........so... ;)

YokoHammer,
Yes. A couple of documentary directors I met while on FW were lovely and obviously talented people. They use to kick me out of thatch roof work shots, which locals thought was inappropriate primitivism and somewhat bossy, but their argument wasn't completely invalid and they obviously enjoyed their work itself more than the licence it gave them to yell at underlings. Any of the better documentaries about traditional thatch roof houses and villlage life are usually by them, and I always found them very well done. A little cheesy/schlocky and romantic, but not too much so.

I think that's what they consider as good TV here...group ego massage.

I'd take one for the team but my guess is my J-otaku level is insufficient.

its common sense among most of japanese that j-entertainment offices are run by yakuza or their puppets. its no wonder that thier exploitness is so high. if you enter j-showbiz world, you should be determined to get along well with yakuzas. otherwise, do not get involved with it.

Her statement can also be reversed: why female FGs can't get a FG BF...
