Near the end of the UK days in HK, it became harder to become a British Citizen and to get British passports. As a result, many HK people went to Canada before the revision to get new passports, have babies (ala Agnes Chan) and prepare contingencies just in case the PRC cracked down to hard on the former colony. So there are actually quite a few Canadian citizens by birth or otherwise, in HK now.
