Indonesia say GTFO to Lady Gaga

Movies, TV, music, anime other random J-pop culture phenomenons. Also film/video production, technical discussion, cast and crew calls, etc.

For the record, I'm no fan either but calling her stupid is, well, stupid.

I can't call her smart, because unlike Cohen and Atkinson who have shown their witt more than often, I have yet to see anything remotely smart coming from her. I'd be more than happy to be pointed toward an interview where you could catch even a glimpse of intelligence, but usually there seems to be a shielding made by her outfits completely preventing any kind of normal conversation. Making money is not a free pass to be labeled as smart... W Bush make shitloads of money, rappers make loads of money... all despite room temperature IQs. The product being sold "Lady Gaga" have yet to be proven genuine and not just another made up expandable trend. (see "the spice girls" for this matter, when under the sunlight, all were giving the same answer to question about the group, "met in highschool, were living together yadda yadda" now any documentaries start with how they where specifically casted to appeal to the widest audience and never even met before the first training sessions)

Once again... the approach "rich people can't be dumb" while being one of the capitalist founding lies don't exactly hold really well against the test of reality... At least Amy Winehouse had her voice and music, the controversy around her were more detrimental to the music than anything else... For Gaga... without the controversy, I wonder if people would know about the music... because it's on the edge of chaotic and painfull... In fact, much closer to Gwar than Winehouse...

Gotta weigh in here.
I don't like Lady Gaga.
That said, she IS a musician and a showman. In a business where looks are everything, she can't go to far, so she made her self a harlequin, a musical clown and uses that persona to sell pop music. THAT is what is smart.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

Sums it up nicely.

But we also have to remember that she's also quite philanthropic with her earnings, which is another "smart" move on her part. Pretty impressive for a superstar that young.

There's no way in hell a fool could have achieved her success and taken it even this far. That kind of celebrity quickly destroys stupid, weak people.

Seconded.
By inventing and marketing the Lady Gaga persona she avoided the fate of yet another lounge singer.
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

Nice try there but you're making a connection I didn't. The "millions of dollars" comment was an answer to what she'll have left.

There's a difference between being witty and knowing how to get oneself noticed and become a mega star. AO, did a good job of summing up the kind of smarts I'm talking about. Besides if you really want to use the quality of the university someone went to as a measure of intelligence (I've met too many well educated idiots to do so), it's hard to call Gaga stupid given that she attended NYU. If it's the fact that she's a dropout that bothers you, she joins a long list of morons that includes Steve Jobs.

By the way, I wasn't aware that guys like Jay Z had room temperature IQs.

That is assuming she is not just a puppet...

And not diving too deep in the accounting...

http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/06/27/gotham-gossipist-lady-gaga-sued-for-allegedly-scamming-monsters/

Once again, all the good attributed to her can come from puppet masters trying to perfect their method of milking frontwomen. And are so in contrast with anything you can see directly from her.

Come on, seriously. Attending is nowhere near graduating... Check any interview with Atckinson, they are delightfull (seen him mimicking car -brands- with facial expressions against Clarkson ?). Same goes with Cohen.

Gaga... where's dem brains at ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9kBiBk4Cvg

She comes out as an inarticulate tool...

Meanwhile Madonna on Gaga...

There is dropping to go on and create Apple computers, and there is dropping out to go and shake your ass on the telly... It's madness to compare them... You're expected to have formal training and intelligence to create the most successful company on the planet. You can do with big boobs and spreading your legs to become a singer... And as you stated... any idiot can graduate... she's not even at that level it seems...

By the way, I wasn't aware that guys like Jay Z had room temperature IQs.

Yokohammer wrote:I'm not a big fan of her music. Not a big Madonna fan either, and I can see the connection quite clearly (in fact I think Gaga herself says Madonna is a huge influence). I'm merely commenting on her success and projected longevity. The former is already a fact, and I think you'll see her around for a long time, even even she bails out of music and goes into design or something.

I think you're mistaken about her intelligence. She crafted her current persona in order to succeed ... her way ... and is doing very well with it, obviously. She didn't start out like that, she deliberately created the Lady Gaga character and segued into it later on, with a purpose. To me, calling Lady Gaga stupid is equivalent to calling Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) stupid and clumsy.

Of course all just my opinion, but there it is.

Marilyn Manson did the same thing. Everyone calls him sick and crazy, but behind all the shock rock/goth shit, he is an extremely smart person both academically and biz wise.

There was a video of him speaking about politics... really crazy how he fliped from sicko to smart guy.

Same with Gwar... or is it because they are facing Jerry Springer...

I'm surprised you even mentioned him since it's well know that he's pretty much been unsuccessful in business and only has money because his daddy does.

Bush was smart enough to know he was set for life if he played his cards right.

I think Gaga's success is partly due to the times, if you stop to think then things are pretty dire for young people in the West, they face the prospect of starting their professional lives in the middle of a train wreck, so they need a bit of ludicrous meaningless escapism. For me she has more in common with Nintendo than music.

Damn, she's still fugly but she's much more of a trooper than the other "pop idols" plastered all over the place these days.
