es flamenco: Japan has one of the best flamenco crowds
There are many who are still surprised when they see a Japanese bailaora (female flamenco dancer) or a Japanese cantaor (flamenco singer). Nonetheless, some claim that there are more flamenco teachers and schools in Japan than in the rest of the world. Likewise, Japanese students make up a large percentage of the students in classes that are taught by great artists in schools in Spain...However, it is only a matter of time before people will get used to it, as Japan is the country which has the most flamenco enthusiasts after Spain...more...

Flamenco baba are fairly common here---I know several. A couple of catches forJapanese enthusiasts:
 The concrete construction of Japanese mansions conducts the vibration of the foot stomping of flamenco too well---neighbors become violent.
 Flamenco stomping on pseudo-wood covering the concrete floors at Japanese community centers conducts vibration too well to the knees of wannabe flamenco baba.

Gasp! I teach a class of them on Wednesday morning. I don't have a clue as to what motivates them, menopause perhaps or the fact that they consider themselves too young for 'Foola'

esflamenco: Japanese flamenco schools will have to pay the Association of Authors
Japanese flamenco dance academies will have to pay musical intellectual property rights from 2006 onwards, according to a spokesman for the Japanese Association for the Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC)...In the case of flamenco schools, this tax will only be collected starting from the moment when the law is completed, said the JASRAC spokesman. The payments that are due will be calculated following a negotiation with the guild of Japanese flamenco schools, based on the size and number of students attending an academy. According to the Japanese Flamenco Association, although only 120 schools are registered in its records, the actual number of academies could reach five hundred, while the estimated figure for the number of students is fifty thousand, predominantly women. The bailaora (female flamenco dancer) Yoko Komatsubara, the director and owner of one of Tokyo's most popular flamenco schools, will oppose the measure, because she believes that it fails to take into account the didactic work undertaken by dance schools, some of which only have enough classes to cover their basic expenses.
