This reminded me of my "best" train story...

It was in the summer of 1993, my first summer in Osaka. I'd been out drinking heavily as usual, and just managed to stagger onto the last train home.

Plopped down beside some dude in a suit and waited for the train to depart. Sometime not-too-long after I noticed that he had already puked on himself once, the evidence was all down the front of his suit!

Decided that sitting beside a guy who had already spewed on himself wasn't the best idea, so I moved up to the other end of the train.

A few minutes later the train starts off from the station. All is quiet, just a group of drunks heading home... About 10 minutes into the trip, buddy at the other end of the train regains consciousness and proceeds to puke. Violently. He spews all over the guy beside him, himself, the seat, the floor... Everywhere. I still have this vivid memory of the guy sitting beside him jumping up and trying to shake the puke off his arms and manga. Blech. :puke:

Thankfully I got off at the next station... Hopefully the guy that got puked on beat the shit outa the puker... Doubtful though...
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

hahahah great story. always surprises me how japanese ppl can remain calm and sit beside someone almost garanteed to spew.

Also another thing I simply cant get is how Japanese ppl can sit beside SMELLY HOMELESS men on the train and act as if there is no STENCH at all.......

ahhhhhh gotta love the japanese !

I also have a taxi story. The last couple of trains on the Chuo line in Tokyo don't go all the way to the outskirts of the city. So when you get off at the last stop and need to go farther, besides the normally line of taxi's, there are usually one or two off to the side that will announce "Takao, Hachioji homen", or other such places and you can load up in them. As soon as the driver gets a full load of five people, one in the front and four cramped in the back he's off and will take all five where they are going in order, heading west. You only pay a set fee but everybody pays the same the taxi driver makes out above the meter and everybody gets home without having to pay the whole fee or slightly more than waiting an hour for a legit taxi.

We were loaded up and I was fortunately last and relegated to the front seat, which saved me, half way into the trip, one of the drunks, all strangers, up-chucks about two issho bins worth of sake all of the back seat and guy(s) next to him. The driver whipped into a gas station and everyone worked on cleaning up the back seat, while the barfer was giving a chorus of sumimasens and gomennasais. They all jumped back in the car with all the windows up and continued as if nothing happened. I can't say much cause faced with walking home, I jumped back in with them. Not one cross word was raised! The driver didn't even appear overly mad.

I would have thrown the guy out after making him clean the car, or at a minimun, stuffed him in the trunk, but they just accepted it. Only in Japan!

In Taiwan, the train stations smell like vomit because of the nasty exaust fumes from nearby factories. Many a time I felt like I was going to vomit when taking the trains there so I can definately relate.
Check out what I think you gaijins should be doing when you get to Japan at http://www.tokyoessentials.com ! Cum on, DO IT, I know you want to...

I remember escorting a friend home from Roppongi who had seemingly puked up whatever she drank and then some, but when she started talking about stopping the car and having to go again the driver was very clear that we'd have to pay Y10,000 if she spewed in the car. (not bad value actually: I think its about 150euro onto the meter if you soil a taxi in Ireland. I remember at least a couple of taxi drivers telling me that drunk girls pissed on the seats in the back of their taxis.. consciously & on purpose - classy!)

and not long after moving to Japan, I remember squeezing onto the last yamanote home from shibuya and ending up next to a very visibly fuckedup salaryman, in between stations he began to chuck up pints of chunks (as small compensation=he happened to be facing the doors - on which it mostly ended up, but there was plenty on the floor too): everyone in that 1/3 of the train shuffled and leaned with all their might in the other direction! - even to be only a couple inches further away. the expressions of disgust were priceless :)
I thought he might get out at the next station, but he didnt; so half the people left that section and went to different doors and carriages.

I think the new drinking laws theyre introducing in the UK will make puking in the streets an arrestable offence resulting in fines or some jailtime!

I figure they could get 1875 fines in one hour in Shibuya on a bonenkai Friday night.
