Tokyo Streets Set To Roar

UPI: Filmed car chases now legal in Japan
The Japanese government has reached an agreement with the local entertainment industry to allow car chases to be filmed on public streets. The Yomiuri Shimbun reported that the Japanese Construction and Transport Ministry and the National Police Agency have agreed that filmmakers may now film on city streets with the permission of area residents and police. The new limited regulation acts as a legal waiver of the country's general ban on such practices and will allow the Japanese entertainment industry to produce more realistic movies and TV shows, the newspaper said. "Movie makers and TV stations welcome the new interpretation of the law, which will enable filmmakers to produce dynamic pictures," a public relations officer said for the Toei Co., a large film production company. One NPA official said neighborhoods that allow filming in their areas will likely experience a local economic boom, the newspaper reported.

I wonder what the Tokyo version of the Fruit Cart Scene will be.
