Besides, right now Koshien has a 40% share of TV viewership <yawn>.

Guy Jean. Where'd ya find that listing in English? Online? I'd love to see a site that showed english listing for bs and catv instead of bumbling around the sometimes hopeless katakana listings.

Yeah, I've heard cable guides are disorganized crap. Probably the same authors as Japanese instruction manuals]http://wowow.co.jp/english/index.html[/url]

For the simple BS and regular channels, I use TV Guide (Japanese):
http://www.tvguide.or.jp/cgi-bin/top.cgi

I believe it has a cable guide as well though... Enjoy! ;)

Thanks a lot Guy. A quick glance at this months Wowow has pretty much convinced me to cancel the damn thing. I'd give up cable altogether if it weren't for CNN/BBC. I'd love to sign up for Tsutaya's Netflix equivalent service, but titles are only searchable by thier Japanese/katakana titles... and how the fuck am I supposed to find out, for example, that "Karate Kid" = ベストキッド (or whatever).

Grumble grumble grumble...

Love the J-ball in widescreen. Can't wait til it's commonplace "over here". Nice Tube T. How big is it? Mitsubishi?

Yep, it's a new 45V Mitsubishi digital Hi-Def. My new TV is unique in that it has both ethernet I/O and USB2 ports. The building of my condo is going to a digital-only antenna in the next month so I thought I'd get up to speed since I'm still malingering at home with f'ed-up, puss-filled leg. The payback in electrical savings over my dead 45-inch CRT big screen is only 3 years so why should I wait? Anyway, Japan will stop all analog broadcasts in 2011.

One would think that they would push for a faster transition to digital, given the primary beneficiaries would be likely be Japanese companies....The US is set to turn off Analog TV come 2009, albeit with a giant government kickback program to subsidize digital to analog signal converters for non digital TVs

The J-government is shitting kittens with the 2011 deadline after they sat down and did the math. It's impossible for Japan Inc to export digital TVs to the world (80% market share) AND replace all their domestic ones within the 2011 deadline.

Flipping through Monday's Gomiyuri Shinbun (Yomiyuri), I noticed they have a cable English TV guide for the week.. Not sure if it includes your cable package, but you might want to check it out next week..

Wowow's new channels

Postby canman » Thu Sep 08, 2011 1:42 pm

I just got a postcard from Wowow announcing that they will start there 3 channel system from October. On the postcard it stated that Wowow prime, airing dramas and other family fair will be dubbed. Then I found a press release stating the same thing;
Wowow Prime will be family oriented, focusing on dubbed versions of foreign dramas and movies, while Wowow Live will run mainly live music and sports events, while Wowow Cinema will broadcast 800 films per year, ranging from blockbusters to European and Asian arthouse fare.

Now what I wonder, will we be able to change from Japanese to English, or will they only be broadcast in Japanese. In the press release they state that they want to be different from skyperfectv and NHK, what that meansI am not sure. Just wish that they would offer a different commentary for their sports programming, like the US Open!
