
Shochiku has unveiled a new marketing strategy for their new horror film "Densen Uta" which stars members of idol group AKB48 (YouTube trailer here). Around three weeks before the film opens in August, they will put up posters in toilets in shops, cafes and restaurants around the Shibuya area. If you follow a set of footprints into a particular stall, you'll find the toilet paper has a QR code printed on it which will lead you to the promotional site. The button which would usually play the sound of flushing water (to cover up the sound of peeing) will instead play the film's eerie curse. Shochiku is planning a similar campaign in toilets around Ikebukuro and Shinjuku. George Lucas is said to be intrigued by the possibilities:
