Sounds more like Sideways meets The Big Chill or even The Big Chill goes on a road trip

And I didn't realize there was any bad stuff in Sideways. Even my 70-year-old mother thought it was pretty hysterical.

Wow. The "bad stuff" is what made Sideways fucking hilarious. I guess she's talking about the sex, alcholism, full-frontal male nudity, and cursing. Sounds like another Japanese cinematic snooze fest.

Sideways is one of my favorite films. I don't even know what they mean by "taking out the bad stuff". It was all good.

There is no such category as "low" when classifying your basic Asian Beaver. There is only excellent and magnifico!--Greji, 1/7/06

I think they're basically gonna take a feature movie - and make it look like one of those drama specials....
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

It's a collaboration between Fox Pictures and Fuji TV.

Guardian: Japanese version of Sideways in the pipeline
You might think a Japanese version of every oenophile's favourite film, Sideways, could highlight some interesting differences between the drinking cultures of the US and the land of the rising sun. Instead of the vineyards of California, it might be set in the sake-producing Nada region of Japan, for instance.

Variety reports, however, that the forthcoming remake of Alexander Payne's hit 2004 indie comedy will keep the action in the original's Napa valley, simply changing the protagonists from American to Japanese. Fumiyo Kohinata, a popular character actor, is taking the melancholy wine expert role originally filled by Paul Giamatti, while Katsuhisa Namase will take Thomas Haden Church's priapic college chum part.

In the original, the pair set off for a bachelor's holiday of sorts in the wine-producing area of Napa. It's supposed to be a relaxed jaunt round the valley's myriad vineyards and wine tasting centres, but Haden Church is determined to spend it chasing the local females. First-time director Cellin Gluck, who will take charge of the Japanese version, has experience working in both Hollywood and Tokyo, mainly as an assistant director and post-production producer. The film, a co-production between Fox Japan and Fuji TV, will hit cinemas in Japan next autumn.

I'm glad to see the've brought Kettle Chips and French's yellow mustard. You couldn't enjoy a fine Napa Valley wine without them!

GIAMATTI INVITED TO BE PART OF JAPANESE SIDEWAYS
Contactmusic.com -- 30/03/2009 07:26
SIDEWAYS star PAUL GIAMATTI was stunned when he was asked to play a cameo role in Japan's remake of the hit wine movie...
...The actor says, "They asked me to be in it, actually... I don't know what I was going to play.
"I said no. I felt my career hasn't hit that low yet. I thought, 'What am I gonna play - the sushi chef or something?'"
Giamatti is far from impressed with the actor who will play his character, Miles, in the Japanese version of Sideways: "They got a strange, little troll to play me."
