Dave Spector Voted Most Popular TV Commentator

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Aug 28, 2009 12:29 pm

Oricon has just released the results (Japanese) of a regular survey which asks viewers to rate the commentators who regular feature on the nation's news and current affairs programmes. For 2 years running, Dave Spector has held second place behind Terry Ito but this year has switched places to be voted number one, breaking Ito's three year run at the top. Testuya Miyazaki is in third place this year. Spector was credited with being knowledgeable, occasionally provovative and having a good sense of humour.

Oh Dave, has anyone verified that he is not in fact a Japanese man wearing a gaijin costume.

Considering his creepiness and blonde hair, wouldn't a gaijin skin suit be more appropriate? Dave Spector may in fact be the real, Jame "it puts the lotion on its skin" Gumb.

"Goyim" in the Japanese context would be 'gaijin' ( "Goy" [plural: goyim, adjective: goyishe] is the standard Hebrew term for non-Jew--literally it just means "nation").

Taro, stop spoiling this pristine sample of idiocy...

For Spector... you know your a winner when you have your own wikipedia entry...

I'd still prefer to have explosive diarhea (and even enjoy it) rather than watch this other pathetic sample of mankind on the telly... (who was also part of the cast of the wonderfull turd-sandwich "the world sink except Japan")

I'm in a scatological mood this evening it seems... Wonder if the private club "Le Rectum" in Paris is still open... Anybody's in for a fisting friday night ?

Wouldn't this apply to any of us who are working in this country by utilizing our foreignness in some way? It certainly applies in my own particular case and, I guess, for most other foreigners I've ever met here.
It's either the yen or the pussy...but even then to get the piece of ass you've gotta have the cash, so it does, in fact, all boil down to the money. Maybe wide-eyed Japanophiles with their utopian visions of what this country is all about would disagree, but invariably even they have to prostitute themselves in some way if they want to prolong their "Japan experience" for any length of time.
What other alternative is there? Making a contribution to Japanese society? Surely you don't think the Japanese -- a people every bit as xenophobic as any other east Asians -- want gaijin so they can have a richer, more cosmopolitan outlook that would make this country a more active member of the global community?
You're being way too harsh on Dave Spector. I say "good luck to him." If he's taking home half a million bucks a year, he's obviously only a much more successful panda than the rest of us gaijin.

Dave Spector is a classy guy and provides an excellent insights into "real Americam" thinking for Japanese. Take for example his book for Japanese called "It's Only a Joke!", ( available on Amazon Japan http://tinyurl.com/traditionalracistjoke ) that authoritatively 'explains' American humor:

"Why don't black mothers let children play in sandboxes?
Because they don't want them to be covered with sand by cats."

"What do you do with the dead body of a black?
Flay his skin and make a wetsuit."

Like I said ... a real classy guy with a truly tasteful sense of humor that represents the Best of America~! ho ho ho~!

Remember to try and use them the next time you have a business meeting or presentation with a real American businessman. And, see how effectively it breaks the ice!

I think we have covered this in a previous thread, but that was indeed the car and of course, no insurance could cover the collector's value on a vintage Corvette. A further interesting note was that it was in the basement parking lot of his office/residence and the sprinkler system went off with the fire. He was billed a couple of million yen for the sprinkler system, re-charging it and damages.

Good incentive to go ahead and let everything burn 'cause you're going to be an fg anyway.

As usual I feel I need to put in a word on Dave's behalf. Not only is he a personal friend, but a homey! Chicago Lane Tech.

He and his wife run Spector Communications which produce numerous documentaries and short subject productions, as well as Dave being on the tube all the time. He does exceptional preparation and works about 25 hours a day.

He does have his image and it can be offensive to some people, but not only is he a skilled linguist, who is exceptional in reading and writing Japanese as well, he is quite knowledgeable in business in Japan. I do find exception with people who dislike him simply because of his noteriety and supposed "lack of language ability," attributing his success to him just being an fg. I have worked with him in productions and appearances, which he has made for us (at a pretty good gouge) and he is nothing but professional. This is what accounts for his successes. Also, I think I can safely say his annual draw is a pretty good tad more than the 500 thou estimates quoted herein...

Yeah, maybe he's real cool IRL. But the personna shown on TV is not exactly likeable for the other foreigners...
The same goes for Doug Bradley and Angus Scrimm, they don't go around trying to mutilate every breathing creaure they encounter. But when you see them IRL you tend more to run for your life or shit your pants than anything else (at least for the first minutes or so).
And for the simpilots, on a completetly unrelated but it's the same kind of reality distortion field kind of way. I was once in a local model expo in me littletown and behind the corner of a wall. On the edge of a table there was a ZSu23 shilka with tubes pointing right at me, my first reflex was to jump back while thinking "shit i'm fucked"... It all goes to the same thing... maybe your not a big douche... but if the only aspect of yourself shown is your douche side... you can't blame people for thinking that you are actually one...

I understand your point, and yes, there are many Foreigners that fit into that mold that you are referring to and I can respect that, but Spector on the other hand acts like a complete imbecile!

I believe it, seems like he would stoop that low. Hey...he has a right to make a living even if it means to demean others. Especially, as a minority to say something like that is saying to me, ethics mean nothing to a scum like that!

Writing a book with racist jokes in it is not necessarily make him a racist. It really depends on the context. If he was trying to explain American humor then covering racist jokes definitely makes sense.

So you mean in order to get cheap laughs, it's Ok to make fun of someone's ethnicity, religion or physical handicaps. Tell you what, if I were to sit in front of Spector and tell Nazi jokes, I wonder if he would find amusement in my humor or if he would try to put his hands around my throat and try to choke the life out of me? He's Jewish, he has enough material for a 24/7 line of Jewish jokes he can make fun of. He can explain to his petty flock about German humor!
