SHUN-SETSU in Yokohama Chinatown!

Postby Taro Toporific » Sat Feb 01, 2003 1:00 am

Gung Hay Fat Choy! (May prosperity be with you)
Xin Nian Kuai Le! (Happy New Year)
In Japanese it's SHUN-SETSU in Yokohama Chinatown--- the year 4701 on the Chinese Calendar, and time to welcome the Year of the Sheep, Black Sheep, or Goat depending on your source and celebration.?

Used to live there, way back when....

heard that MyCal Honmoku took a nose dive....pity....the shops there were interesting, at least when I was living there....

May check the area out again, some day, once I get some money to go back and see what I will see.... :D

MyCal went up for some sort of restructuring, but the complex is still there... I sometimes catch an overpriced movie there with some friends. ;)

MyCal is now a post-Zombie Company...

Many of the major "anchor" department stores have quit Honmoku MyCal's main building such as "Saty" and "Vivre":

However, the eating places, and MyCal Warner Theaters are VERY alive.

Refer to
The Financial Services Agency will conduct special inspections on large-scale debtors. The banks' assessments of their borrowers first came under fire after the collapse of debt-laden supermarket operator Mycal Corp.(IHT/Asahi: January 29, 2003)

I've worked in Yokohama for 17+ years, but I only moved here about 8 years ago so I ain't really a 'hama-ko child of Yokohama. Actually, I'm just an obnoxious transplant Kanto-jin, whose inaka rice-ranch is CHO-inaka Shikoku (alternatively, Burning Tree Ranch, Colorado or wilds of the Northside of Chicago where Dave Spector was a neighboor).

Hey guys, I have tentative plans to visit the Chinatown festival this Saturday. If you want to meet me, you'll have to ask all the FGs you see there, "Are you kamome?".

My fav, the Shi-shi (Lion) Dance is next Saturday the 8th at 3pm.

Look for Kamome's afro and my clean-head 'cause I'll be there too. I'm the easiest FG in Japan to find]Sheeeeee-sheeee-it,[/b] I never saw a gaijin like that before!"

Taro, you're hilarious! I'll try to get over to 'Hama by 3PM to catch that dance. Should I just shout out, "Hey, where's Taro Toporific???" when I get there?

I went to Yokohama Chinatown from work to look at the Dragon Parade tonight (Friday, Feb. 7). Here's a few JPEGs...

How could miss me
looking like this?! Image

TONIKAKU...
Yep, the crowds were fierce and we may have crossed paths.

But DANG ya really missed it, Dude. After the Chinatown dragon disco and Shi-shi mambo, I wandered into the filming of a Japanese movie at Yamashita Pier way off the end of Chinatown street. It has a "hard-boiled" film called Tenshin no Kiba [From the Teeth of Angels]. I managed to be the only FG in the crowd right in front of the cameras when the 5-story jump off the warehouse occurred.
More crowds than Chinese New Years at the filming of Tenshin no Kiba here...

The movie will be released this summer, look for me, the tall FG in the blaze orange sweatshirt with the stupid smile ..... 'cause they had to pay me some kimochi (10,000yen) before I would sign the SAG release for me being filmed in front of the 5-story jumper stunt scene.
