World Cup

Postby canman » Tue Jun 03, 2014 8:44 am

The past few World Cups, Sky perfect has been broadcasting all of the games on their 800 channels. But I have been checking and i can't find anything about them broadcasting.
Does anybody know where and how we can watch the games here. i refuse to watch anything on NHK or Nippon TV, I want the original British announcers. If I have to listen to Jay Kabira just once, i will hack off my ears.

I heard the guy from '66 had a throat operation, so he's probably out.

That is what you meant by original, yeah!??? :cool2:

Anyways, fully agreed about the need for the proper feed, but I'll take the Japanese announcers over any American ones any day. Proper soccer announcers should not feel the need to explain why there's a throw in, and anybody that needs that explanation should be watching fat men in tights sports anyways.

Do post if you hear anything. I'll do same same.

Details of the broadcasting rights are here. What the implications of that are I have no idea. Good news? Bad news?

I assume one of those stations will be available on the Sky Perfect platform though.

My wife was doing some checking and it seems Dentsu, those bastards, have secured the rights for Japan and are asking an arm and a leg to broadcast the games. Sky perfect so far are refusing to pay. So, as usual will only get to see the games that Japan plays, and maybe a handful ofEngland or Brazil games. Can't believe in this day and age that one of the greatest sports events will not be broadcast as it should be.
As for ESPN, they have imported a bunch of British announcers for the games.

I wonder how long it will take before all these kinds of things are streamed online by the original broadcasters. At some point eventually individuals paying them for streaming bandwidth will outweigh what they can make in local licensing. Imagine that...paying for only the feeds you want  NHK nightmare!

Not sure it's worth the hassle when you see that they can basically ask for whatever they want and have near to nothing to do for the broadcast...

But technically, to NHK, any device capable of receiving a broadcast makes it okay for them to demand money.

Aaaahhhh, young Grasshopper, can you not hear the clinking of coin, the rustling of bank notes? I agree in spirit, but I would argue this is the coming trend. The men in shorts part is simply a pleasant distraction from the real business of sports TV. It is the opiate of the masses after all.

I also fear that ESPN's Imported British Announcers will actually just be That ESPN Irish Guy That Does the Soccer and some random third rank ex-player or announcer, but we'll see. That ESPN Irish Guy actually gives quite good play by play, but the accent says Hurling not Footy. I hope the BBC has Adebayor on again. The facial expressions of the other guys on the panel are simply priceless when he speaks, assuming what he does when he opens his mouth qualifies as speech.

If you are getting a video feed you might be able to supplement with a radio feed.
SBS in Australia will be doing the coverage but I'm not sure who the commentators for the games will be as it might be licensed off via bbc etc.. Linky Here

They are "generally" impartial and it's not like anyone is going to give a flying one or want to really watch Australia play. If Les Murray is calling it's not a bad thing...

Oh, I just pray that both J-teams get knocked out early. Not because I begrudge them a win, but because it seems to be the route that will kill the overkill on TV here--shut 'em down and shut 'em up. If I have to here the word nadeshiko one more time, I'm gonna break something.

Looking at the guide now it seems BS1 is showing all the (other) games. Can only see a week ahead but so far so good. Doesn't look to be a bi-lingual broadcast.

Thanks. I checked out the NHK site, and if I read correctly they will show 32 games live, and the other 32 on delay. Again, nothing about bilingual, but, I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Aha, cutting edge graphic design and product development. Seems a bit wasted on toilet paper but OK for those IT magnates who can afford it I suppose.
