Hair today, gone tomorrow
Thursday, June 12, 2003 / Japan Times
A friend of mine once observed a Japanese high-school student waxing his chest at the back of her class. And everyone has seen girls depilating their eyebrows on the train, skillfully matching their plucking to the shunting from station to station. Apparently, some women even shave their forearms (though not on the train)....

I saw a woman shave her armpits and legs on the Chuo-sen a while back, then completely change her outfit under a loose fitting skirt and jump off at Kichijoji just in time for the night shift behind Yodabashi.

Then yesterday I saw a young woman spend about 5 minutes adjusting her boobs on the morning train. Case of the ill fitting bra I think.

So I resurrected this thread as weird shit you see on the train.

I once saw an obatarian on the Shinkansen cutting her nails with a clipper. Really embarrassing those nails jumping to the other side of the car.

ok not on the train but a gross story

Having heard all those stories about the importance of the business card in Japan I was surprised to see a guy in a meeting use the business card he had just received from the client to pick his lunch out of his teeth.

That is because he did a course on business etiquette. Without that, he would have rolled up the business card into a tiny cylinder and cleaned his ears with it...

Reminds me of yesterday evening on the subway.

An old man came to sit next to me, and proceeded to scratch his whole body for the next 10 minutes, starting with the top of his head.

Lacking any of those symptoms this morning, I conclude that it was not a communicable disease...

Total loony woman on the morning train today

First glance I thought she was prepping for some kind of drama/dance/mime audition since she had headphones on and was doing a cross between Marcel Marceau and Gangnam Style, but then she took the headphones off but continued the mime act. Got on and off the train at every stop with a crazy smile on her face.

To me it looked like someone who had taken LSD. I guess she may have had issues and taken a couple too many medications.
