Mickey Mouse weddings

Image Disney World weddings no Mickey Mouse affair
NEW YORK TIMES / Fri, Aug. 15, 2003
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - ... the wedding business has become so popular at Disney resorts worldwide, it has begun booking ceremonies for its Hong Kong park, which has yet to be built....can run more than $200,000 for an extravaganza in the Magic Kingdom theme park. That was the cost when a couple married last year in the rose garden in front of Cinderella's castle ...
..."I now present to you Mr. and Mrs. Shinichi Sawa," the minister announced afterward to no one in particular; the pavilion was largely empty. (The service was Christian; the couple were not.) After an awkward kiss and photographs...Mickey and Minnie burst through the doors with a flourish. "Mickey!" gasped Takahashi, her excitement palpable as he embraced her. The giddy couple danced with the Disney characters, who tripped over outsized shoes. Takahashi beamed when Mickey got down on his knee and kissed her hand. When asked why she did not hold her wedding at Tokyo Disney, which also has a booming wedding business, Takahashi said,
"It's more real here."

Cheesy? How 'bout a nice traditional Elvis wedding???

Elvis will perform the ceremony and sings a selection of his greatest hits! From the Elvis Blue Hawaii package, featuring lush tropical sets, smoke effects and theatrical lighting (included are two hula girls dancing to The Hawaiian Wedding Song! Or you can even substitute a Priscilla impersonator to appear as your Matron of Honor instead!) to the Las Vegas wedding package, with Elvis in all his glory (flanked by showgirls in a thrilling Vegas setting), you will find it difficult to choose!

The Elvis/Blue Hawaii wedding package includes: use of the Elvis Wedding Chapel, all Elvismemorabilia, Hawaiian sets and props, one Elvis impersonator Minister, Hula Dancer, Showgirl or Priscilla impersonator, theatrical lighting and fog. Elvis himself will perform the wedding ceremony and sing his most memorable tunes!

Price for this wedding package is $700.

I don't know what I would do or say if a friend invited me to a cheesy theme wedding like this. I don't know if I could keep from criticising their choice. Theme weddings sound like a mistake equal to getting your HS sweetheart's name tattooed on your ass.

Perhaps there's a link between the fakeness of a Japanese wedding with the fakeness of marriage as an institution in Japan?
YBF is as ageless as time itself.--Cranky Bastard, 7/23/08

FG is my WaiWai--baka tono 6/26/08

There is no such category as "low" when classifying your basic Asian Beaver. There is only excellent and magnifico!--Greji, 1/7/06

That's why I took the lesser of two evils and chose wafu style (kimono and all)... I'm not shelling out so one of you goons can read me my vows (although I'm sure GuyJean would make an impressive pseudopriest). ;)
