Couples have a chance to hear the voice of an angel this Valentine's Day, but it might make some first dates feel just a bit unsettled.
Japanese singer Yoshikazu Mera is a countertenor. Countertenors, commonly known as male altos, are a special breed of male singers with a high singing voice whose range falls between that of a male tenor and a female mezzo-soprano. The voice, however, is imbued with a strange, totally unique quality that is neither feminine nor masculine and is often described as otherworldly or, to those unfamiliar to its sound, just plain weird.
Mera is one of several, rising young countertenors today... already heard his voice in the title song to the hit Japanese animae film, "Princess Mononoke."
