i took this one back in 2002. i just caught the inokashira line
and took my dv cam with me. walked around and just took random shots.
most of the cool stuff is on the west side of the tracks.
check out the girls making the "hemp" necklaces, the game center and the
goofy DJ at Duke's Bar.

rob pongi paid that guy at Duke's Bar (not the piano bar - the other one)
like 1000 yen the week after for playing a whole side of a bowie record.

you are welcome for the video. i have a few more. after i get back from LA on WED., i'll post some more. i get to speak at LAFCPUG right before walter murch, who is the "god" of all film editors. he did sound on godfather, edited most of apocalypse now, english patient, unbearable lightness of being and now cold mountain.

that's right all, rob was in a shonen knife video. he was chasing the knife down a narrow side street like frankenstein tearing after his prey. i think it was freakin' genius. he's in the video at least three times!

that barefooted rocker is in the very Detroit7 resemblence of something outta the L7 era ('member them?). i very enjoy at shows of the world-famous ibeam with the pongi in the very years before the descent to inside the great buddha.

the singer sounds like a choking bird that can only manage two notes and the drummer is a whirling dervish from hell!...the guitar playing? well, it's uh...more like an aural assault. still--it's a unique kind of primal scream j-punk! a truly amazing live band. me 'n the pongi've seen 'em like a gajillion times. see 'em for yourself if you ever get the chance.

Well, I believe that Shonen Knife's 'Mass Communication Breakdown' video is still playing on Space Shower TV here so I won't be able to get permission for a while yet. Remember, it was done by Warner Bros. Japan, so I can't say if or when they'll let us bring any part of it on.

Yeah, but as a totally unknown fan, I could put up few 10-sec snippets of the Pongi related segments and nobody would complain...that would go double for Caustic in Korea.

1. demand number 1 cannot be replicated, unfortunately. you **just**hadda be there. the best i can do is a pre-pongi era rob dressing up as elvis for halloween (see above).

the video is hilarious as uncut because rob is practicing "disco inferno" in front of the camera in the rabbit hutch. i peed my pants on that one.

the rest of the video as rob goes out to roppongi is also high-larious!

2. rob doesn't want to get in trouble, so we have to leave it up to him as to whether he will want to publish the stills from the shoot. trust me, it's freakin' hilarious seeing rob pongi as the zombie that chases the knife.

3. I see NOOOOOOOTHING. i hear NOOOOOOOTHING.
