A North Korean state-run broadcaster has told various Japanese television stations to pay for the use of its images for purposes other than news reports, the stations' officials said Tuesday.
The request by the broadcaster KRT was made through the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan. The association, known as Chongryon among Koreans in Japan, serves as a de facto government mission for North Korea in the absence of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Until now, Japanese broadcasters have been receiving and using KRT images through its satellite broadcasting service.
