It was a nice story to read about. It's something I think we have all experienced in our own ways. Marveling at the food, the kindness, the toilets, etc. I can't wait to go home.

He sees Japan exactly the way I see it with emphasis on the positives and turning a blind eye on the negatives. Generally speaking though his observations are a lot more detailed than other stuff I have read from foreigners in Japan for the first time.

For example, when he talks about eating breakfast in a regular local joint, he accurately notices how great the service is and the food is good or how the restaurant is clean. No need to go to a fancy shmancy place to have a good meal in Japan. Sizeria or Jonathan's are immaculate places, fairly cheap with excellent food.

Yes, it is excellent food. In fact it is amazing food for that price range. You may not know good from bad but I do. And by the way, I was fully expecting a response like yours because the unsophisticates on this forum are sooooooo predictable.

What can I say? I don't even use their drink bar because they don't carry Diet Coke which is the only thing I drink in a casual restaurant.
Just admit that the two lowly chains like Sizeria and Jonathan's in Japan serve infinitely better food than what you can get in the best restaurants of your lousy fucking town back home.

that explains everything. When your body is breaking down the Nutrasweet in the DC, it oxidizes a methyl group into methanol, which does some nice stuff to your brain...albeit only temporary at the levels contained in sodas. If you start snorting the stuff....care to enlighten the "unsophistcates" on that?

A few years ago when I had just moved into a new suburb and was still a bachelor, I had breakfast every day at the same local chain family restraunt. In just one week the staff learned my likes and dislikes, from examining what I left on my plate and what I didn't, and made sure they had the stuff I liked ready for me when I came in. I still remain incredulous at the level of service.

A lot of Saizeria's food is imported from China, either in frozen or instant form. There isn't a number low enough on a quality scale to say just how nasty that shit is.

(Hope you enjoyed some of their Chinese-made frozen pizzas last time you were there, they had melamine in them.)

There are definitely good family restaurants. Royal Host isn't bad, Cocos is quite good, and I really enjoy Volks when I go.

Saizeriya on the other hand is.....crap. The only thing it has going for it is that it is rock-bottom cheap. Even at those prices though I think it's poor value.
