I will have to admit that Japan looked better against Korea than they have in the past (Italian influence?), but they better get a bit tougher to keep the Roos from handing them their lunch....

Can someone tell me what the difference between a sports fan who wears a team jersey, paints his face and puts so much stake into something that will ultimately not effect his life in any meaningful way and a cos-playing otaku is?

Generally about 100lbs of blubber.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking

the sports fan does it once and a while for a sports event

the otaku does it everyday for no reason but to tickle his fancy

Bullshit. Sports fans are like trekkies only worse: they're actually proud of their stupid obsession.

For the record, I don't mean everyone who likes to watch a sport any more than I mean everyone who likes to watch Star Trek or read comic books. I'm talking about the hardcore fans.

From many, many years back, in almost all sporting events. Tommy, you ought to get out of California more often! There's a big world on this side of the Ocean.

Australians should go play with themselves, as usual.

I have yet to see otakuz going on coordinated rampage against police force and burning down everything around the stadium to the point of requiring hardened riot control police intervention with water canon trucks...

Not too many fat fuck Japanese sports fans in my experience. Plenty of fat fuck otaku though.
