When I was a kid, I was a crack marksman and I always wanted to compete on the Olympic Rifle Team. I even made the local qualifiers, though it would have taken years to get to the nationals.

But I would have never even considered it, if I had known the competition included a bunch of pussies with BB guns. And 10 Meters? You could shoot spitwads accurately at that distance.

I think the target is the tip of a fruitfly's exoskeleton penis and all participants have to do an 8-ball of pure Columbia and be pepper sprayed before even touching the air rifle....maybe I'm wrong but it would make for an entertaing event...at least until a reasonable number of spectators got pegged.

I can see that Bolt's coach ripped him a new one, before running the 200m. Bolt actually ran full out, the whole length of the race, and no showboating until AFTER he crossed the finish line.

But it doesn't matter. Just after the announcement of his official time, the NBC commentator said, "Imagine what he could have done at 100m if he had kept going all the way." Ha!

Peculiar that an Internet message board posting showboater would be so riled by a track and field world record breaking showboater.. :p

Martina, Spearmon Disqualified
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/feedarticle/7739806
Churandy Martina of Netherlands Antilles and Wallace Spearmon of the United States were disqualified after finishing second and third in the Olympic 200 metres final on Wednesday.

Spearmon was the first to be ruled out and Martina followed him, both for stepping out of their lanes on the turn as they chased eventual winner Usain Bolt.

The decisions moved defending champion Shawn Crawford of the U.S. from fourth to second and compatriot Walter Dix took third to match his bronze in the 100m final.

"It feels kind of weird, it feels like a charity case," Crawford told reporters. "It's horrible, it is heart-breaking and I feel his (Spearmon's) pain right now. I hope Usain (Bolt) stepped out too because... that's a gold medal for me."
Spearmon was clearly unhappy.

"It's got to be three steps," he said.
Jamaica's Bolt won the event in world record time of 19.30 seconds, bettering Michael Johnson's 12-year-old mark.
After the disqualifications, Bolt's margin of victory increased to over half of a second, an almost unheard of figure in sprinting events.

A refreshingly different take on Usain Bolt from the great sportswriter Thomas Boswell.

To this point, you might find Bolt vain or in danger of getting there fairly soon. But there also is a deep streak of modesty and respect in him. Every fuddy-duddy on NBC has criticized him for his antics in the 100-meter race, but Bolt took no shots back at them. Even three hours before this race, [Michael] Johnson said that Bolt's 100 was "the most impressive athletic feat I've ever seen in my lifetime. Nothing he does is going to shock me at this point. . . . I think he could have run a 9.62 if he had run through the finish and tied up his shoes.

"But in order to run 19.32, he's going to have to run the curve a lot better, and he's going to have to hold his speed for a very, very long time."

In this did Bolt see disrespect? Far from it. He gave respect.

"A lot of people compare me to Michael Johnson," he said. "I don't compare myself a lot. I'm just trying to be me. He revolutionized the sport. I just changed it a little bit."

Yeah, fuck the critics. The guy is as fast as he is because he is who he is. And he is who he is because of how he does it. He's loose, cocky, and looks like an amateur when he runs. He turned 22 today. What were you doing at 22?

Face it Charles]Punk Rock[/URL], your 'sprinters school of thought'.. is dead.. And Bolt electrocuted it! :p

Flipping back and forth between Women's Beach Volleyball (CHN x BRA) and Softball (USA x JPN).. Softball looks to be another good one.

Question: The other day I turned on the TV and saw a Men's Team Beach Volleyball match. Brazil against Brazil.. WTF? Since when could countries send multiple teams to an Olympics? It sort of validated my view that 'Beach Volleyball' being in the Olympics is a joke.

Yeah, nothing wrong with that. I'm not saying that the other countries' athletes are all hotties, but it seems a higher percentage are obviously female. Some of the Japanese and Chinese women are really girigiri though.

I hate to spoil it but that beach volleyball game is taped and the results are already in. The US destroyed China 2-0 to win the Gold.

As this great article puts it, posted by someone else on the forum a while back (I forgot who.. could have been Buraku), beach volleyball belongs at Club Med.
A lot of hoo-ha is made during the Olympics about medal tallies. But exactly how do you compare the relative performance of the United States and Equatorial Guinea? Comparisons tend to be made on a per capita basis, on team size, sports funding, gross domestic product, average rainfall and the local price of a Big Mac.

I'm sorry, but coming first in the beach volleyball comp is just not the same as winning the marathon. One belongs in the Hall of Heroes, the other at Club Med.

The fastest man on earth gets one gold, the ping-pong champ the same? Come on. It's like comparing Miss Universe with Miss Congeniality, Best Director with Best Achievement in Costume Design, the Nobel Prize for physics with the Nobel Prize for home economics (if there was one)...

Stranded by a rising river, I'd want to be with someone who could either swim across it, jump over it, or just throw me over her shoulder and carry me across. Gymnastics, triple jump, javelin: all of these might conceivably be useful at times like these. Brave knights did not rescue damsels in distress with a deft hand at softball. It was fencing, pole vaulting and archery that won the day.

This is, of course, why walking continues to be the stupidest event at the Olympic Games. Why don't they just run? As one commentator said during the Sydney Games, a contest to see who can walk the fastest is like a contest to see who can whisper the loudest.

It would have been a strange Neanderthal who thought: "I shall retreat from this advancing river of molten lava, but, a-ha, here's the rub, I shall always keep one foot in contact with the ground."..

Pass the Dildo relay got fucked up for team USA

Gay Drops Baton, U.S. Out

The U.S. men's 100-meter team was eliminated in round one when Tyson Gay, running the final leg, could not hold onto the dildo from Darvis Patton. Martin and Travis ran great and the U.S. would surely have advanced easily.

Let's hope the US women's team don't drop it

Un-fuckin-believable finish for Japan. This was probably the only time ever I was cheering for the non-American team, probably because at this point any more Gold for the US won't put them any higher than China in the medal standings.
