Perhaps, but the S. Koreans played better than Uruguay in the second half but nevertheless came up short.

My old lady didn't have a dog in the fight. Even if she did, she ain't gave up any free "tang" since Christ was a Corporal.

Vertically challenged yet ironically the only S. Korean goal came on a header...granted it wasn't off a set piece though.

These guys owe a HUGE debt to the foreign coaches who taught them so much, and to the overseas soccer clubs who welcomed the Japanese players so they could learn and grow. It has taken many years and lots of work, but as soon as they win a few major games all success is attributed to "Japanese uniqueness"

A simple "thank you" would be nice.

The phrase "dwarfs standing on the shoulders of giants" springs to mind.

The Yamato race is distinctly blessed at football, as evidenced by all the stars on their jerseys which denote the previous World Cup titles they've won.

Oh wait, those aren't stars...just grains of koshihakari that got stuck during breakfast.

Typical.
After all, Euro-American asiaphiles like you are friendly with Japanese or Asian as long as they are weak and keep reserved attitude toward Westerners. And as soon as Asian start threating their standpoint only a little bit, you start saying "Fucking cheeky despite being Asian!".
This is the reason why I never believe would-be asiaphiles. You need a punch to your face.

And needless to say, there is no "pure" originality in the earth. Every people imitate others at first and season it by their own special way and get their own identity.

What's that on their faces ... egg?

But really, rivalry in sports is fine and normal.
"We're gonna win," "we're gonna crush our opponents," ... totally OK, no matter what side says it. They just have to face the reality of losing when they do. That's cool.

Not giving credit where credit is due, on the other hand, is unsportsmanlike, short-sighted, and not a particularly good way to make friends.

No, you're being "typical" Take.
Japan has played very well this cup. Everyone is acknowledging that fact. Japan can be rightfully proud.
HOWEVER, Okada's comments have completely ignored the long process through which Japan is finally, after many years (what is it ... 60 or 70 years?), emerging as a soccer force. That is cheap, self-centered, and unfair to everyone who has helped them get there ... and unfortunately, "typical."

EDIT: As for the last part of your comment, you are absolutely right. The honorable thing to do, however, is to acknowledge that history instead of taking all the credit yourself, or rewriting it to suit yourself. That's part of what "dwarfs standing on the shoulders of giants" means. Look it up. Unfortunately Japan has a history of rewriting and white-washing history to support the myth of Japanese uniqueness, which is why a lot of people are so sensitive to this type of thing. If you're going to talk about "believing" people, you'd better be totally believable yourself.

You may now punch yourself in the face.

Any predictions on tonight's game? Mulboyne what say you? 2-0 for Germany I think. They are younger and if the referee lets them play a little it should make for a good match.

I'm certainly getting a TV fix tonight... Watched the Grand Prix earlier, watching the Eng/Ger game now. Both teams playing well, hope England gets a goal to at least tie it up though!

SWEAR. These are the worst referrees I've ever seen officiate. FIFA needs to take responsbilitly for this shit. Time and again, the referees have spoiled the matches. Fug these refs...they suck balls.
