damn good job by Dan Wetzel.

Speaking of wrestling I did about an hour of takedown drills followed by about 45 min of sparring last night. That's the first time I've done takedowns in at least a year. Fucking brutal on the back and knees.

Are you actually in shape SJ? You're always joking about being a fat lazy alcoholic

Being a fat, lazy, booze bag and training in MMA aren't mutually exclusive. I only go to the gym about 2 or 3 times a month but my body still remembers the basics. I'm trying to force myself to go 3X a week a or more and start dropping some weight. That shit is starting to catch up with me.

so how much do you weigh now and how much do you want to be?

Let's put it this way, the average weight of the girls in choko's stable is literally probably less than I've gained since my mid 20s (I'm late 30s). And most of that has been in the last 4 years.

Trust me, I know how to lose weight. Done it plenty of times. I just enjoy eating out and boozing more than working out and eating healthy. Plus the older I get the less I care about how I look and since I've never had issues getting good looking tail there's just not much motivation.

With all this talks of things like a 24-hour subway system to make Tokyo more suitable for the Olympics one thing I haven't heard anyone talking about is finally making Japan join the rest of the world (and the 20th Century and yes I meant 20th not 21st) by forcing the banks to have an integrated ATM network that accepts all domestic not to mention international credit and cash cards. The small glimmer of hope I have that the Olympics will be the catalyst for that is the only reason I hope Tokyo gets them.

I don't know if you know this (I sure didn't until just recently), but the the ATMs at most post offices accept international cash cards. Of course you get hit with a handling fee, but if you need to withdraw some cash from an overseas account it's great. All I had to do was walk 4 minutes over to the temporary post office in the nearby temporary housing area out here in the sticks to make a withdrawal from a bank account in Oz. Pretty amazing, I thought. And I believe the ATMs at some (if not all) convenience stores accept international cash cards as well. Worth a try, eh?

The banks, unfortunately, aren't quite that advanced. Ass backwards, but TIJ.

Edit: forgot to mention that there was no indication on the ATM I used that it would accept an international card. The post office staff didn't even know: they just said "try it and see." So I did, and it worked.

Yes post office ATM's and citbank ATM's can withdraw cash from foreign bank accounts (savings). This is the best exchange rate as well.

Lots of ATM's (bank and combini) will accept foreign credit cards (cirrus, plus etc) where you can get cash advances on your credit cards but 7-11 ATM's will work a treat and always reliable.

I've seen post office ATMs in Tokyo with stickers on them advertising the fact that they accept international cards. With the PO, 7-11 etc. the situation is way better than I remember it in the mid-90's anyway. Apart from the actual banks themselves, that is, who are presumably still governed by creatures from Planet Inconvenience.

There are still a lot of ATMs that won't, for example, take my Shinsei card (especially not at night). I've used the same card in the US, Korea, China, and Vietnam without a problem. Friends of mine from abroad still have trouble finding ATMs that will accept their cards when they visit. These are people who are well traveled and have used the same cards all over the world without any trouble. I usually take them to 7-11 but even their ATMs don't work with some cards and not every neighborhood has a 7-11 (Or a post office. Especially not a post office with 24-hour ATMs). Yeah, things are a lot better than they were when I first got here in the 90s but Japanese banks are still ridiculously behind the curve on this.

Come to think of it I've got into the habit of making a mental note whenever I see a post office / 7-11 / Shinsei ATM if I ever get caught short (Shinsei here too).

And it always makes me want to do the Luc Picard forehead gesture whenever I see people queuing at lunchtime to get cash out of bank ATMs as they'll be charged for withdrawals if they make them any time they're not actually working...

Depends on the bank I guess, but AFAIK most charge for withdrawals in the evenings and at weekends (assuming the ATMs are open at all).

I use Shinsei so not affected and my information might be outdated.

Also been using the post office for a couple of years now, the international transaction fee feels rapelike. But whats a little rape between friends.

As of April 19 2013 = YESTERDAY!!

Another step backward. So does that affect all international cash cards?
I sure hope the post office doesn't follow suit.

Economic sakoku, fer chrissake.

EDIT: Here's something. Maestro cards with EVM chip technology will be temporarily disabled. Other than that, as far as I can tell from the Japan Post Bank website, international cash cards are still usable.

Good to see them undermine their own bid by ignorance.

They can forget the votes of:
- all Islamic countries
- China
- both Koreas

I watched Inose's presentation speech...he was throwing his arms around and gesturing wildly in an imitation of the Japanese stereotype of A Merkin with the upshot being that he looked and sounded like Brains from the Thunderbirds, only without the brains.

I'll give Tokyo voters one thing....I never imagined for the life of me that they could ever erect a fucknose of Ishihara's caliber ever again, but they have excelled themselves.

I saw clips of that this morning too. At first I wasn't really paying attention and I thought he was some kind of owarai talent trying to be funny in English. In my Engrish teaching days, I saw some Japanese kids try to do the same thing at English speech contests. At least it's kind of cute when they're young.

Stereotypes become what they are because they contain at least a grain of truth, like obnoxious Aussies, untrustworthy Roasbifs, genocidal Teutons, dumb Merkins and surrendering French...but that doesn't appear to be the case in this cuntry. Where the fuck do they get these stereotypes from? Televangelists? I suspect it may be the strong link between prewar and postwar education. I suppose something like this happens to a degree everywhere, it's just made more unpalatable by a cockhead like Inose. He makes even Hashimoto look more sensible on a global stage.
