Could be. I just watched it again on youtube. I think I thought it was his left elbow since that's the arm that dropped first.

Whatever the case, I'm not easing up. :p

Another painful to view video

Postby kamome » Fri Aug 15, 2008 3:12 am

[yt]TLuBUemWgc0[/yt]

Tomita Hiroyuki slipped when dismounting off the rings and landed hard like a "rag doll" according to the announcers. I saw this live on TV and then found a website that still had the YouTube video of it.

NESWSports.com: Tomita, Japanese gymnast, falls off rings.

EDIT: Thanks to whoever fixed my post and found an embeddable Youtube vid.

Ouch. That was a pretty hard hit, but at least he was able to get back up and walk off with some dignity.

Keiji Suzuki, on the other hand, curled up on the mat and cried after suffering his second ippon during the 100 kilo Judo contest. Not the kind of thing one expects of an olympian.

He kept competing as well. I think he still had 4 events to finish..

Phelps is friggn' amazing. I thought Thorpe was impressive.. Phelps blows him out of the water.

I've heard the pool facility is part of the reason for all the records being broken; 3 feet deeper, 4 lanes wider, and deeply sunken gutters help the swimmer's wake move quickly away from the swimmer.. The new suits with turbine nanobots could also be a factor. ;)

Phelps diet

Postby canman » Fri Aug 15, 2008 2:11 pm

I was watching CNN and they said that Phelps eats more than 12000 calories a day just to stay at 4% body fat. I hope this diet doesn't catch on in th US any time soon, or look out world. That being said this guy is a machine. I wonder if he tried really hard could he give anybody, including Kitajima a run for their money in any swimming discipline.
I'm watching the US blow away the Japanese softball team, and most of the players look like Olympic athletes, but not the catcher or the 1st baseperson. The guts on these two ladies are pretty impressive. Someone should tell the catcher she can wear protective gear, she doesn't need her own padding.

You should have seen the Belgian women's beach volleyball team, they have a 195lb 6'4" woman. In a bikini. She almost singlehandedly beat the legendary US team.

And that game is over, called according to the mercy rule: one team ahead by 7 or more runs after 5 innings. I imagine Iraira's girlfriend isn't too happy at the moment.

That second player wasn't playing first, she was the DH.

I've got to say, I was a little disappointed not to get any women's gymnastic coverage today.

I know Thorpe retired early but it was still a surprise to realize that he's only 26. He won his head-to-head with Phelps four years ago but you can't help but wonder what would have happened if he had kept it together for this Olympics. He claimed he just couldn't get motivated which is a shame because it would have been a hell of a match-up. You can't take anything away from Phelps, though: he can only beat whoever is in the pool and those records are an achievement no matter how good the conditions.

Phelps might be breaking the records by a greater margin.. :p

Maybe Thorpe will come out of drunken 'retirement' to challenge Phelps in London?

I haven't mentioned a thing to her about it...she's fretting over Japan's judo team, and I figure that unless I want a "we're just two good friends hanging out" style weekend, I should contain my gloating.
I did notice something...she watched Kitajima's last gold medal swim at least 10 times, until I forcibly extracted the remote from her, which illicted strange guttoral sounds that I'm sure my neighbors confused with the local noraneko-tachi who are in perpetual heat.
Female cats have barbs on the insides of their vagina to lock the male's penis in. Presumable, it is somewhat painful for the male, yet he still answers the call. This is not personal experience speaking. Anyone got first hand experience?

Bolt! is fucking amazing! Breaks the 100m world record.. And doesn't even pump his arms the last 30 meters!

I'm not much for chest thumping, but Bolt is the fucking MAN! He's a fucking beast! 6'5" with cheetah speed.. NFL scouts should be all over that shit.

Hell, it looked like he actually slowed down a little at the end.

Maybe he didn't want to set too high a mark so that he could come back and break the record a few more times? :D

Good point.. He usually starts slow, then hit's galloping speed and passes everyone.. This time, he started fast and just completely dominated.

Bolt and Phelps are raising the bar.. We're witnessing human evolution.

I almost missed it being stuck on the Japanese coverage and re-runs of wrestling, Kitajima and the careful coverage given to all the tears of the Japanese goal and bronze medal winners. There are other sports going on in the Olympics, but they don't seem to notice or care.

As happens every four years here, the screams of "Gold, Gold, Gold" are starting to get to me, somebody should mention that in this great medal splurge, the Japan team now has won as many golds as Phelps....

I don't want to sound like I'm trying to take anything away from Phelps (because the dude is unreal), but people can raise the technology argument against him (Speedo suit, pool design, etc).

Bolt is just damned fast.

Showing up in gold shoes for the final was pretty cocky, but the dude has the speed to warrant it. Puma must be absolutely in love with this dude now.

The British commentary team doesn't seem too familiar with gambare and gaman. They are watching Reiko Tosa in the marathon because they had tipped her as a potential medal winner. She is currently dropping further down the field and the commentators think she is injured because her running style has deteriorated. "I can understand why you would want to do your best at the Olympics," says former track star Steve Cram "But she really shouldn't be pushing herself if she's injured because she'll only be doing herself harm. I'm sure her fans watching in Japan wouldn't want that". Distance runner Brendan Foster adds "Sometime determination gets in the way of wisdom".

She was injuried before she left for Beijing and they had a big media blitz here on how she had received special treatment to insure she could run. Well, okay.....We can see it really worked!

Mulboyne, we are getting the same picture but with Japanese commentary and I had to laugh. The j-commentators made a huge apology during the first 10K, saying that they knew how all the J-fans only wanted to watch only the j-runners, but this picture was being sent out by the Olympic broadcasting, so to please "gaman" because the J-media could not focus on the j-runners.

While I was typing this, they just flashed on one of the girls and said she was married to a Japanese guy, but I didn't see who it was.

Maybe Take has his harem represented?

The British commentators suggest that the director should stop showing Tosa because she is clearly in agony.

That's Mara Yamauchi who features heavily in this thread. Since the British no.1 Paula Radcliffe is also injured and struggling in this race, Yamauchi looks like our best hope for a medal.

Thanks Mulboyne, I now recall that. Do you know if she is still posted here? It would be could to see her do well.

Edit: They just helped Tosa off the course, she's done...

Radcliffe has just stopped for a rest too. It looks like it could be the second Olympic marathon she fails to finish.

Yamauchi is indeed based in Tokyo. She did most of her preparation in Japan. It looks like she's dropped off the pace too.

Yeah. I saw that. Kitajima had the lead at one point.

Just saw the Usain Bolt race...

Fucking showboat! If you're not going to give your best effort, don't come to the Olympics. After Bolt's record is broken and long forgotten, people will still remember that he didn't give his best performance, he was more interested in showboating.
