Gunmen believed to be from a radical Islamic group in northeast Mogadishu, Somalia, shot two people dead during an impromptu raid on a house where people were watching a World Cup match Saturday night, Reuters reports.

A witness told reporters that masked militants "stormed into the house" and open fired at the World Cup viewers, killing two instantly. The militants rounded up about 10 other fans, but left the bodies in the home, the witness said.

The incident came on the heels of a national ban on viewing "un-Islamic" World Cup games made by the local militia group al Shabaab, which controls much of south and central Somalia by force. By al Shabaab's logic, the championship interferes with the group's plan to overthrow the government, because Somali citizens are too preoccupied with the games to fight on their behalf.

Other militant groups have also professed their disapproval of the World Cup.

"Football is an inheritance from the primitive infidels, and we can never accept people to watch it and we are directing a final warning to those who want to watch it," said Sheikh Mohamed Abdi Aros, a spokesman for Hizbul Islam, a group which has reportedly raided homes and detained at least 30 other World Cup fans in Afgoye, about 18 miles south of Mogadishu. He did not specify how the group -- which has also routinely banned music and dancing along with other sports -- intended to enforce the ban.

Thus far, neither of the two groups has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Despite the prohibitions, Somali soccer fans remained undeterred, and residents say they will continue to seek out various ways to skirt the ban, including the use of makeshift satellite dishes. As one Somali told the BBC, "I have one eye on the TV and other on the door, and the sound turned down."

When people resort to doing crazy idiotic and senseless acts of brutality and violence like this goes to show you that these gun shooting bastards have absolutely nothing else to do in that country except intimidate, pirating passing ships and killing innocent football fans, sickening!!

Seriously. To say this murder is appalling would be an understatement.

Word is bond. But considering the fact that Japan has NEVER won a World Cup match outside of Japanese soil it is a momentous event. Japan over Cameroon? Nobody would have thunk it.

EDIT: Just as in Chile's 1-0 victory over Honduras...the first Chilean win in 48 years of World Cup tournament play.

What a gift goal the Koreans just got from Argentina. Maradonna will be livid I'm sure. But I think Argentina will come out and put up another 2 goals just to make sure the game is out of reach.

Yup definitely a bad mistake by the Argentine defense. They were straight up sleepwalking on that play.

If Korea had scored that great second chance it would have been one of the goals of the tournament and may have changed the way the game played out.

Japan will be humiliated in the same manner this weekend. Actually, I won't be making any more predictions because I jinxed the last game.

Nah, go ahead and predict away, you've got a potential Midas touch. I'm betting against whatever you predict

Am I the only person on earth (aside from those in the RSA) who actually likes the vuvuzela's sonic cacophony? Aside from the throwback to the sounds the giant ants made in the classic Them!, must have been that steady diet of Butthole Surfers and early Sonic Youth that make the vuvuzela sound unoffensive, even soothing to me. Of course, I'm not at the game with some knucklehead blaring the thing in my ear. The TV hissing at me is great.

Truth be told, I have gotten used to the sound, or perhaps the broadcasters have found a way of reducing the sound. But I agree that one part missing from this world cup is the singing and chanting that fans usually do. Even during the Swiss Spain game even though they showed the fans ringing cowbells, could not hear even one. Not sure what sound is better anyway.

Are those vuvuzela audio filters a scam, or legit?

Probably legit... their sound is in a pretty narrow bandwidth so filtering or cancelling out the sound without affecting the rest of the spectrum shouldn't be too difficult.

I think the Spanish referee was on the take for the Germany Serbia game. What a terrible job of calling a game. It did really seem like he was favoring the Serbs. Just watched the first minute of the US Slovenia game and Clint Dempsy decked a Slovenian, if this Spanish guy was the ref, he would have been kicked out for sure, but nothing, not even warning!
