Ex-Yankees Irabu arrested for alleged assault
AUG 20, 2008 12:36 AM
TOKYO (Map, News) - Former New York Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu was arrested Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a bartender after drinking 20 mugs of beer, a police official said.

Irabu, 39, became angered after his credit card was rejected. He then allegedly pushed the bartender against the wall, pulled his hair and smashed at least nine liquor bottles at a bar in Osaka, western Japan, a police official said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

The bartender sustained no injuries. Irabu paid the bill with another credit card.

The police official said Irabu admitted the assault. Article here....

The bar and the man.

Apparently he got angry when his prestigious "black" credit card was rejected. After going berserk, he is said to have eventually paid with another card.

Jack, you really need to do something about that paranoia. I mean these days they do sell all sorts of stuff for enlarging your johnson and that could chill you right out.

From a quick look at Wikipedia I saw that he is from Okinawa, but is Irabu a Zainichi something or other?

Or does being Okinawan make him a semi-gaijin?

I refuse to answer that on the grounds that my answer might tend to .... well, you know.

I was flying in and out of Okinawa frequently at that time.

Actually, Irabu, who did not know his father and obviously never had the chance to meet him had said in a press conference prior to going to the Yankees that it was one of the main things that he wanted to do when he went to the statesl. He apparently did not have enough information to locate him, because it was never raised in the media that I saw after that.

Irabu probably did lose his temper on the bartender who refused to take his AmEx Black Card. However, none of this would have made the news - let alone the police blotter - if it weren't for Irabu being famous.

Apparently Irabu is going to play for the Kochi Fighting Dogs of the Shikoku-Kyushu Island League. I can't imagine he'll be getting paid much but the publicity might help bolster attendance a bit.

Irabu Wins First Outing With Dogs

Postby Behan » Mon Aug 24, 2009 2:19 pm

Irabu steady in independent debut
KOCHI (Kyodo) Hideki Irabu pitched seven innings of three-run ball in his independent league debut with the Kochi Fighting Dogs in a game against the Ehime Mandarin Pirates on Sunday.

The former New York Yankees hurler allowed seven hits, walked five and struck out three in a 117-pitch outing and left the mound with a 4-3 lead before Ehime tied the game in the eighth. The contest ended in a 4-4 draw.

"It's good that I threw more than 100 pitches and kept the team in the game through seven innings. I used off-speed pitches effectively. I am part of the rotation, so I want to continue to set the pace of games," said Irabu, who recently said he is aiming for a return to the Japanese top pro leagues.
