[/floatr]A woman has died on a golf course in Hokkaido after falling into a hole which appears to have suddenly opened up on the eighth hole. Takae Gassho was playing with her husband and two children around mid-afternoon when the accident occurred. The hole is around 5 meters deep with a diameter of 1.5m and is said to have some water at the bottom. It is unclear whether the ground gave way as the family walked along the fairway or whether it the hole had appeared earlier and went unnoticed. Police are investigating the accident and will decide whether charges of professional negligence should be brought against the course operator. Short NHK news clip here.

I think they said the pit had water in it and she drowned. And also that maybe there was still a layer of grass and thin soil covering the hole before she fell through so she couldn't see it.
