Most Japanese are so completely lost and clueless when they travel its funny. In LA I'd find them wandering about the strangest places - like 1am in MacArthur Park in LA ... shit what was I doing there .... Or 50 of them still in salaryman suits jumping off a tour bus to go into Cheetahs. That really irked me - Cheetahs is a small place to begin with and when 50 japanese salaryman come in you gotta wait at least 2hr for a lapdance!!
See you in PyonPyang!

Nah, the sonority of afrikaaner is hated by most french, as much as the french-canadian accent. We are born with stuff like that hardcoded it seems... (like fear of showering or attraction to stinky cheeze). Hard to explain since there is no explanation... just recuring observation of the happenstance...

The French-Canadian dialect is similar to Old French, no?

Belgrade during a NATO air strike is probably a better bet. A real shame as S Africa is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Speaking of Afrikaaner, I know a Japanese girl who learned English while in S Africa, so she speaks English with an absolutely delightful Afrikaans accent.
Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

When I was a student up in Hollywood, I would see hundreds of Japanese tourists congregate by the Chinese Theatre and by the 3rd St. Farmers Market
they would always have a distinct look that you just can't miss, walking in tight clusters and the tour guide with their loud megaphones makes them stand out just a tad.
I think the key is to try as much as possible to blend in and NOT be so inconspicuous. If I go to Tehran, Iran for a vacation, you might think wearing a big bright Lakers Jersey and a cap would bring a little attention to myself.
Personally for me, the group tour thing from my own experience was a nightmare. I did a 3 day tour going to Seoul-Korea 10 years ago to do the update my 90 day Visa thing. I thought it would have been a fun thing to do, but it was the exact opposite. You can't do shit! Always have to be with the group, eat with the group, never wander off(as I did, 2 hours later...boy, did they scold me!)go to the shop that they want you to go. All in all it was a nightmare!!
How anyone can go on these tours amazes me. 2 weeks ago, one of my friends went with a tour group to Europe for 5 days covering Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech, Slovakia. I don't know about you guys, but I would never spend hordes of cash to go and see these countries on such a limited time schedule. I don't see the point, how can you enjoy yourself? But she apparently thought it was money well spent, although she said to me, she was completely exhausted having to deal with such a hectic schedule.

Also, Dr. P who in their right mind would ever want to go to Cheetahs? Their lap dances are really boring. I mean, that is what I heard. I'm surprised that place is still in business!

Actually a lot of Afrikaaners are of French extraction, hence the common Afrikaaner names De Villiers and Du Plessis among others.

Old French would not be a problem. French is... lets say directly retro-compatible with old French. Good part of early school years are spent studying moliere and friend in their original style. There is also modernized translations, but somewhat looked down upon. It's really just the accent that can trigger murder impulse.

Hospitalized for 2 weeks for a broken jaw?
Kengo Nakamura is set to be sidelined for up to eight weeks after suffering a broken jaw in Kawasaki Frontale's 2-0 defeat away to Seongnam Ilhwa in their Group E opener in the Asian Champions League, Kawasaki said Wednesday.

The 29-year-old midfielder, who sustained the injury in a clash with an opponent in the second half of Tuesday's match in South Korea, underwent tests at a Yokohama hospital Wednesday and was told he will need between six to eight weeks to make a full recovery.

Nakamura, who in addition to missing the start of the season will also be unavailable for Japan's Asian Cup qualifier at home to Bahrain next week, is set to undergo surgery on Thursday and will remain hospitalized for around two weeks.

Of course. That's Japan. No point in rushing on home. Do your recovering in the hospital.

I always found the hardest thing about doing French was trying to enunciate at the same time I was licking.

I'm an Anglo-Canadian (although I did study "Parisian" French for several years in school) and I'm just curious to know exactly why Québécois French is so detested in France (I don't know how they are received in other French-speaking countries though).
I know there is obviously differently dialect and accents etc., is it because it is much "coarser" and viewed as lower class (kind of like loud Americans when they visit Canada ;-))?

ZAKZAK suggests (Japanese) that Japanese TV stations have decided not to send any female presenters on location to the World Cup because of security concerns. The articles says that the networks fear their staff could become rape or kidnap targets.

Japan Probe has just picked up on thjs news as well.

I'm a little surprised that the overseas press hasn't noted the move given the story which starts this thread. Talking about other people's concerns is an easy way for a reporter to write about violence in South Africa without addressing it directly.

Here's that Asahi report:

In a rare move for a large international event, Japan Broadcasting Corp. (NHK) and key Tokyo-based commercial broadcasting stations will not send female announcers to the World Cup, to begin June 11 in South Africa. The broadcasters cited security concerns for keeping their female announcers at home. For the World Cup in Germany in 2006, TV Tokyo Corp. sent two female announcers, while NHK sent its popular newscaster Yuko Aoyama and Tokyo Broadcasting System Television Inc. (TBS) sent actress Miho Shiraishi, who was in charge of a soccer program. "We can't possibly send female announcers to a place which is said to be insecure," a TBS spokesperson said. The total number of staff members going to South Africa will also be reduced for security concerns, financial reasons and a perceived lack of viewer interest. TV Tokyo will send about 10 staff members, compared with 50 for the previous World Cup, while NHK will send 73, down from 93 in 2006. TV Asahi Corp., Fuji Television Network Inc. and TBS will also reduce the number of staffers by 20 to 30. Both TV Tokyo and TBS will send only male staff members.

Wouldn't it sound a lot better if they just said we don't have enough money to send a big mixed staff, instead of trying to pump that BS up our orifices?

Since when has pops demonstrated that severe concern for womanhood in the big J?

Hell, the GOJ used to be one of the biggest backstage pushers for the "Yellow Taxis!" The taxi's promotions of YBF around the world brought in huge numbers of tourists and businessmen to the pearl of the orient.....
