Last night Yuzuru Hanyu, while definitely impressive, didn't do much for the image of Japanese men. I know I know, it was men's figure skating but his performance was so feminine, it was like Jyaneezu on ice. Better hope Putin doesn't come after him.

Is it just me or did they fuck up in the opening ceremony with the stars into olympic logo transformation? The last star didn't change...bet some lost their job or life over that. Putin did not look happy right after that.

I've been watching the replay since 8:45, and in addition to the usual announcers blabbering all over everything, making useful comments like "a large group of people has just entered" when you can see quite clearly that a large group of people has just entered, there was an obvious edit at one point.

During the historical reenactment bit the stage goes dark ... the sound of fighter aircraft is heard ... the announcer says "and then World War 2 broke out" ... and then there's a jarring, unnatural cut to a bunch of kiddies marching out and suddenly it's the late 50's or early 60's. Something was unceremoniously removed from the program, I assume by NHK.

Does anyone who watched the whole thing in real time know what it was?

Yeah, I was hoping the FG would "break the story" of NHK censorship. Sadly however, those tricky Russkis only presented an abstract/disjointed, artsy-fartsy history of post-Revolution Russia (not really fraudulent, just vague).

So that must have been a real-time edit then ... i.e. the program was designed that way, and the camera work made it look like a post processed cut. Very interesting. It sure looked like someone had hacked a huge segment out of the program after the fact. But with all the smartphones and video capable cameras around that wouldn't have held up, so it would have had to have been real time.
