Nope! 3-1 as of today.
Sumo: Ozeki Kaio wins autumn sumo, beats Asashoryu on final day
TOKYO Sept. 26 Kyodo - Veteran ozeki Kaio outmuscled archrival Asashoryu on Sunday as he won the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament for the fifth Emperor's Cup of his career and first in seven tournaments.
After the loss of No. 3 maegashira Tochinonada, the only other wrestler in contention, gave Kaio the championship, the 32-year-old shoved Asashoryu out of the ring in the final bout and finished the 15-day meet at Ryogoku Kokugikan with a 13-2 record.

I believe he's 9 and 6 in this tourny..Taro Toporific wrote:Asashoryu loses his fourth(?) in a row to Kaio who took the Emperor's Cup and the Fall Basho this afternoon!

That's you there on the right? Holy Shit that's cool!!! That's not a paint shop thing is it? How did you get in there? Could you bring me along next time? I'm jealous.cstaylor wrote:Anybody catch a view of me doing a "banzai"?
From today's Mainichi online:
Well, I had nothing to do with it. My father-in-law is a supporter of Kaio's stable, so I was very fortunate to be invited for the celebration.AssKissinger wrote: That's you there on the right? I did get to see Asashoryu interviewed. I never knew where they held the interviews until yesterday.
GomiGirl wrote:YAY!!! How cool is that!!! I was thinking about you the other day when I was watching Kaio make mince meat outa his opponents. He has done really really well lately - the next Yokozuna??? He wasn't wearing the Nanshuu apron (sic*) though.
I always wondered why they didn't do more things like that...GomiGirl wrote:BTW did you see the flashing apron one of the guys was wearing the other day? I predict many more aprons will be battery operated from now on. It looked so cool. But I guess it needed a touch panel with a fingerprint scanner though!!
The Ghost of AssKissinger wrote:Well Asashoryu wrapped it up and I don't think Kaio has much hope of going Yokozuna. Sorry taylor. Yall figure Asashoryu will be an FG man today and go for the win or take a cowardly J-kamikaze dive? I predict he dives.
American Oyaji wrote:Ummm, guess you would have lost that bet.
The Ghost of AssKissinger wrote:Uhhhh, we got another hour yet. You got any bold predictions?
The Ghost of AssKissinger wrote:Did anyone else just see it? Kaio just beat Asashoryu and they're saying he might get the promotion
cstaylor wrote:Kaio whips the Yokozuna! Damn Miyabiyama and Kotomitsuki!
The Ghost of AssKissinger wrote:Now they're saying he won't be promoted. Nothing against your guy, taylor, maybe he'll get it next time.
cstaylor wrote:Nah, after losing three times, there's no way they'd give him the promotion. I just can't believe he lost to Miyabiyama... that guy should have been an easy win.
Kaio's hopes die with third loss
The Associated Press
Tosanoumi upset Kaio at the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament on Wednesday, dashing any hope the ozeki wrestler had for promotion to sumo's highest rank.
Touted as a candidate for promotion to yokozuna before the start of the 15-day meet at Ryogoku Kokugikan, Kaio is now struggling just to survive another day.
Miyabiyama

Speaking of losing three times, a tough break for your man
That would be best, but IIRC Asashoryu made Yokozuna without defeating a single Ozeki (everyone was out with injuries).AssKissinger wrote:To tell the truth though, I didn't want to see him promoted without winning the back-to-back bashos. No hard feelings
I'll snap some photos if you want.

I think if Asashoryu had faced some trouble with the Ozekis when they returned from their injuries, it would have looked bad for him, but he's done a good job recently, so I don't think anyone could accuse him of being a poor wrestler.AssKissinger wrote:I didn't realize that. That's a good factoid. Thanks for the info. None-the-less an athlete hardly deserves to be held back because of the inadequacies of his or her opponents. Mumbles 'Fucking college football' You either win or lose other factors are just BULLSHIT
8O I can't agree with that. The best thing about sumo is how violent it is.I would like to see blows to the face banned from Sumo...
Chiyotaikai
Huh? I don't think any honest sumo fan could think anyone comes close to Asashoryu these days. They may not like it but those are the lumps.I don't think there's anything he can do to change fans minds,
he will be set for life.
FG Lurker wrote:AssKissinger wrote:Hopefully. I don't want to watch him making a buffoon of himself on K-1 like Akebono.
Or doing kids TV shows like Konishiki.
To me it stinks of wanting a Japanese Yokozuna.
