[/floatr]Itai News has picked up on a story in IT Media which reveals that the Yomiuri-run site Hatsugen Komachi, with an audience of only 670,000, is stickier than some of the web's most popular sites. Users apparently spend an average of nearly 82 minutes each site visit compared with around 78 for YouTube and 56 for 2ch. What catches the eye a little more is a breakdown of user demographics for various sites. Hatsugen Komachi is aimed at women so it perhaps isn't surprising that the majority of users are female but the survey also claims that 40% of 2ch readers are women. The image of the typical 2cher as a male otaku in his twenties also takes it a bit of knock in the age breakdown. It seems twenty year olds comprise only 11% of the 2ch user base while under 20s make up 16%. Forty year olds are apparently 29% of the audience. The survey doesn't appear to distinguish between lurkers and active users and, like many such surveys, it probably has a poor sampling methodology and large margin of error. However, if it is roughly accurate, then we may need to revise our 2ch stereotypes.
