Recommendations for server hosting in Tokyo?

Postby yanpa » Thu May 17, 2012 2:16 pm

I need one or possibly two rental servers (actual physical servers, none of this virtual cloud nonsense) running Linux, located at a reliable hoster (someone who can replace failed HDs on a Sunday) in Japan, preferably Tokyo.

Any recommendations?

I don't know what kid of an SLA or service contract would be needed for someone to be able to touch your server, but previously we had used KVH (very expensive but then again, the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Tokyo Dome host there) and another service in Chiba, but both of them would not allow anyone else but the pre-registered people to even go into the data center, much less unlock your cage and touch your servers.

When we had a HDD fail, one of us had to go down there and let the HP guy in, but as we were there already, just signed for the new HDD and let him wait in the lobby while I went and changed it (he kept me waiting for 2 hours for delivery...almost at the end of the 4 hour SLA/contract that we had with them)

For a half-rack at a major place, you are looking at something like 300,000-500,000 a month without anything special.

*edit* If you can pm me your budget or what exactly you are looking for, I have a buddy that makes custom servers and probably can put you in touch with a rental place that's much cheaper than anything I would know.

Thanks, but I'm thinking more along the lines "hosting company owns the hardware, they rent it to me for a monthly fee", I have a few like that in the USA and Europe and would like one or two in Japan.
