There have been signs that Google Earth might not have much more future. They will apparently not be doing any more development after the northern Spring this year, and the API will be turned off at the end of the year. All this might explain why they are giving away something they used to charge USD400 a year for.

web browser api are shutdown for security reason

However, the Earth API is built on a technology called the NPAPI plugin framework, and recently, for security reasons, both Chrome and Firefox have announced they’re removing support for this framework.

It was build on a tech that is deprecated. But all plateform have native clients sooo...

the rest of google earth. while it might integrate more deeply with google map, have no reason to go away.

Yes and No. The native clients, apart from Android, have not been revised in over a year. Previously, new versions were coming out every 8 months or so.

Google have been developing the habit of abandoning things they have got bored with, whether they have a user base or not. Just ask all the Glassholes who bought their cool specs for USD1200. Just ask all the Indians and Brazilians who made Orkut a vibrant social network way before Google decided to create a new network with Google +. There are similar concerns about Google Voice, and you start to wonder how long they will support your self driving car if that ever goes to market.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't have your freebie.

It appears that I am unable to.

Could you point out what issue you have with my post? Other than it seems to present an opinion which does not match yours precisely?
Or maybe you are not able to.

Your slight criticism of His recommendation appears to create bad blood.

But you're right. Google abandons too many projects.

It is one of the reasons why I will never make a personal Google web page. The page being non-portable does not help either.

Had my moments too, when - on a street vew spin round the block - I spotted wifey walking one of our dogs

But from what I understand, there is no Linux version of the freebie, at least I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere?

I seem to remember that Linux system requirements were listed on the download page, so you might be in luck.

The download-page does not mention Linux, only PC and Mac, though when I click on the "Download" button, I get directed to download a "GoogleEarthLinux.bin". Will wait a little with that until I catch some people on the Linux forums talking about it. My days of being an "early adopter" (of a soon to be deprecated tool ) are long gone.

Thanksbunches, but I'd rather keep my set-up simple, Windows.exe through Wine usually just adds a squirt of sullenness to my otherwise quite pleasant Linux-experience, evem more so, when it's a little heavy on graphics.

Surely you are not suggesting that Coligny was engaging in systematic threadjacking for the purpose of just harassing one user. Because, you know, that would get old fast.

I think people here know that I point out bullshit wherever it comes from. Just some sources are more prolific.

And thanks for your kind evaluation of my post. If it happens again I might get worried that Cyka gets jealous.

Narrow the focus down enough and you can successfully see only what you want to see.

a shame that it make you miss stuff like big picture or patterns though...

MODS, sincve this thread is totally out of topic and usefulness. Deleting it or moving it to beyond fucked seems like a good outcome...

So, you seem to have concluded that Wagyl was right in pointing out that Google Earth will have only a limited lifetime remaining?

Ahem, I only said might. They are too unpredictable for stating certainties.

And anyway, if you feel you have a use for the very few extra functions included in the Google Earth Pro software, go ahead and download it. After all, it costs you nothing now.

more the fact that the same way I don't make eye contact with hobos (and poodles). I'd rather avoid self important shitstains like wagyl or complete retard giving insecure 14 years old a run for their money.

there are 2 major good things here compared to JT comment sections. Retard like wagyl are singularity instead of majority and mods are not clones of takechimp. But that don't make this guy anymore bearable.

as for google earth vanishing. 1- i don't give a fuck here since 2- it was not the topic 3- hey, now you got the blessing of the shitstain to use it anyway, despite its soon disappearance.
